  1. Ok, So who predicted February 20th on that poll we took at the beginning of conference play? Happy for those kids. We could have easily gone without a road win this year.
  2. I got Blue and Gold's account too. It might be hard to argue with those who haven't had a brightest outlook on upcoming games, when we have the worst record in the league.
  3. Hmm. So, that would be 1 sit-out year, and an additional semester to regain academic eligibility? I don't know if I have ever seen that. That would suck. I think he's a guy we need to get on the floor asap.
  4. I'm not seeing an offer list. That looks like a list of schools, and only shows that those schools had Medium interest in him. So, maybe it does make sense?
  5. Damn. There's more than I even recall off the top of my head anymore. And I was even at that awesome road game in Pittsburgh. Maybe it's that home game against Pitt the following year that I want to forget ? It actually always amazed me that Pitt gave us a 1 for 1.
  6. You have a great memory! After we played at their place about 10 years ago (I was there, but can't remember the year), we had a return game scheduled. I believe that would have been around 2011 or 2012. Anyway, they ended up cancelling and buying us out. I don't recall any more of the details. I'll take these games however we need to get them. Same with the Illinois game. But, I give serious props to Indiana and Syracuse who gave us return games in exchange, just like Kentucky is committing to right now.
  7. I generally agree with you. That's why I originally responded to the "tall players are the only thing that's going to help us" post, which is what started this entire debate. And that's also why I pointed out some players we've had over the years that were not very tall, but were great post players for us.
  8. I think those numbers should answer the question. They were indeed all "listed" at 6-6 to 6-7, which should give you a good indication that their actual heighths were not close to 6"-8" With the exception of Treadwell (who wasn't really the exclusive post guy until Zeke's departure), the other two were literally playing their entire careers here as our "center", Even in the MAC, those guys were playing playing at a disadvantage, and all did very well. I've "been there, done that" on the basketball player height listings. And if you were ever around all of them during the course of their careers, talked to them, took pictures with them, etc., it would make you laugh.
  9. The 3 guys I referenced were Wood, Romeo, and Treadwell. And I assure you that none of them were anywhere close to 6'-8"
  10. You think there might be a reason why his teammates don't feed him the ball, or the coach isn't creating a situation where he gets more touches ? I'm not as interested as you in whether people love him or hate him. I don't think anyone hates him. In fact, guys like him tend to become big fan favorites. I'm just stunned that a few people are displaying delusion in what they are seeing, and in his potential. I think this is a really good and realistic post. He probably will indeed start next season at the back of the pack among the post players again, as you suggest. But if he can ever give us an average of 6 points and a few rebounds at some point in his career, I would say that should make us all happy, based on what we see now. I just don't think he'll ever get enough playing time again to do that.
  11. Spell him? Poke (who is only a mildly adequate big man) was getting 20-30 minutes per game, while Kostelac was getting 2. I really did laugh when I saw this. Good post.
  12. Yep. They were just good basketball players who got a lot done, despite being undersized. That was my point in responding to a post that was making a blanket statement that nothing else will help us except more size. A force? I think there's still a couple of you who are really seeing this through some extremely rose-colored glasses. And it's not just the offensive woes. This is pretty simple. When a guy 6'-11" plays 20 minutes and commits 5 fouls and has 2 turnovers, and can only muster 2 points and 2 rebounds, you better hope you get some guys the following year who are good enough to put him back to 2 minutes a game coming off of the bench. And I think that was one of his better performances this year. And lets be honest. Even the guy who was playing in front of him and getting all of his minutes before the medical problem isn't the long term solution either.
  13. That could be disputed on many levels: 1) At least at the Guard spots, we're probably bigger this year than we've ever been. 2) The MAC has always been a Guard's league. 3) For many years, we've won in this league with "short" guys in the paint. Treadwell, Wood, Romeo. 4) We have a really huge guy playing 20+ minutes right now, and he's not helping us at all. Thinking that we just need more size is probably a natural reaction to what you're witnessing right now. But really, we just need a lot more better players.
  14. It would actually be noting new to play Kent the last game of the season, and then play them again a few days later in the Tournament. Unfortunately, those games were always in Cleveland, and not at Kent. I don't know. I just like the idea of being able to go to the game in close proximity in the middle of the week. And Kent is certainly not unbeatable.
  15. It would appear that more Miami loses are our only chance of still having a shot to finish outside the Bottom 4, and we still have a remaining home game against them. Does anyone know what the tiebreaker is between Akron and OU? If we end up in the 12th spot, I actually like that we'd be able to take some of our own fans right down the street and play at Kent again.
  16. I know what you're thinking based on what you were seeing. It could have been verbal. Who knows. I hate when we can't get a single-technical on just Kent in a situation like that, because of the way they play. It allows the team that's really causing the problem to walk away 50/50
  17. They would not have been looking at it to question their decision to assess a double technical. They would have only been checking to see if anyone did anything to warrant a flagrant.
  18. Nothing new. They just pass the torch to the next group. We also got a little deja vu from the MAC Final last year, with Walker having another monster game.
  19. I have a thought. I'm sure it's likely to be many of the top programs. That's only logical, based on the history of corrupt behavior in college athletics as a result of money, and pleasing donors. So, lets put the hammer to all of these schools, and let the rest of us who love COLLEGE athletics start enjoying the competition again on a more level playing field.
  20. Uh oh. You've done it now. You may have just reignited one of the most popular subjects in the history of ZipsNation. Of course, that conversation ties heavily into Football as well. But, I'd say think that after more than a decade of winning to a level that was only matched by 3 other programs in the country, I don't recall one legitimate sign that any "higher" conference was coveting Akron. If it didn't happen then, it's not going to happen anytime soon. Illini....That's only a partial recap of what's transpired in our conversations. But, I think it's safe to say that it would take a whole lot more than just Akron's desire to "move up".
  21. Me too. I thought Walker was going to be a superstar.
  22. One game? I went a step further. Cleveland was like a 2 or 3 day vacation every year for us (depending on the year, and the tourney format). So much fun. I'll miss that. I recall the first time that 7 year string of Finals ended, when we lost to WMU in the 2014 Semifinal. I had an incredibly empty feeling leaving Cleveland that Friday night, knowing that someone else would be in the Final. I think I almost got ill on the way home. I felt like that MAC Final belonged to us or something !!
  23. But they could easily bandwagon with the big schools that are in their state or region, like many of the people around here.
  24. I think that's exactly my point too. The best teams in the MAC are the most likely to make the NCAA tournament. And I am glad we were one of the top teams in the league all of those years, and got those opportunities. It was a dramatic improvement from the 15 years that preceded it.
