  1. Sounds like Kato's dad. I do agree that the competition should be wide open.
  2. In Mentor's final game this year against Pick Central, Ian Kipp did not play. This is a video of the Pick Central game. I do not know if there was an injury or a covid situation. So, the QB you are referring to in the video is not Kipp. You are right, he is more of a pocket passer. If I remember, he is a sophomore. Please get facts straight before putting down a high school player.
  3. Congrats to Akron and the three players for making all MAC. They are setting the basis for the future of Akron football and several wins next season. There will be 6-8 all MAC players next year. I do think it was a slap in the face for Bubba. With his stats and play, he should have been a first team performer.
  4. Division 1 offensive player of the year as a Junior in the state and first team all state as a senior in this crazy year. He would immediately be the best QB on the roster. If you watched any of his games, you could see that he can throw and run very well. He would be the Zip answer. He could outplay Gibson immediately and he won the award as a junior over Marousek. I know that at one time, Arth was strongly recruiting him, and he was hoping for the big time. I do not know about the current situation, but we have about 26 hours. Let's make him a Zip.
  5. I know we are down to about 37 hours prior to the start of the signings. I am still hoping greatly for Ian Kipp of Mentor as the QB. He would start from day 1 and the Zips would be winning big in 2 years.
  6. I did not see Nate Stewart in the portal, but Zach Leininger did just show up in the portal. He was not in there two days ago.
  7. I am very curious on how the scholarship limit will work. Per the scholarship chart, we have 65 scholly's, minus 1 for Wolfley at 64. We have 24 recruits on the list of recruits. Plus, we have several athletes who opted out that may be returning. This puts us over 85 which is the limit. I would appreciate an explanation or a link to how this works. As Ham said, schools that were close to the 85 man limit will have a much more difficult time. Go Zips
  8. Future QB Earlier in this train, there was discussion regarding Gibson and who should qb next year. There were some comments that the JUCO , DJ Irons, should be the man. I went back and watched HUDL tapes of Irons, Gibson, Marousek, and Jankowski. I know the tapes are set up with only the best plays, but based on what I saw, Marousek looked the best on the tape. Let's see what happens between now and next fall. I am not including DeShields in the mix.
  9. His tape looks really good from both sides of the ball. My question is what is the level of competition that he is playing? If he was playing good competition, how did schools not find this guy? My thoughts are that the competition is pretty weak, thus leaving him without any other offers. Many of his pancake blocks look like they are against much smaller players.
  10. Thanks for brining up Andre Williams. I am not very supportive of players that choose to leave, and then they find out that the grass is not greener. Regarding the rest of the walk ons, I hope we do not give out schollys to those who do not deserve it. As I stated elsewhere, the OL will be better with Corne returning and the recruits and players maturing. Lets close the scholarship gap with recruits and transfers that will make a significant difference.
  11. I also have hope for the OL. This year, they played 4 red shirt freshman and a senior. The only other upper classmen scholarship players are Muldowney and Fonte. Next year, I believe that will get Corne back and he will be a huge addition. They have 3 good freshman and 3 good recruits. I think the OL will be strong for years. The DL is very young also, with the exception of Mitchell and Cross, and I am sorry to say, they are not very good. I am hoping for a JUCO or grad transfer or 2 for the DL, but we shall see. If not, next year will probably be bad also as the young players mature. If all of the OL and DL can add 10-15 lb muscle and get in better shape, there will be an improvement.
  12. Thanks for repeating my future wins prediction that I made on December 3 in the BGSU article. It makes me feel good that others are listening to me. Regarding this note, I have a couple of questions. -Hooks/Sampson/Williams/Uran/Corne - What happened to these players? did they opt out? Corne would be a big help on the OL. I am not sure that any of the others would help. I am drawing a blank on Williams. -Who are the walk ons that you are referring to above? I think the WR's are Grimes and Naim, but who are the other players that are referenced. Looking at the scholarship chart, I thought that the OL are are on scholarship. Please advise. thanks,
  13. Maybe, but we are the youngest with 4 red shirt freshmen and other freshmen filling in. They will be good
  14. Gender:Not Telling Report post Posted November 30 On 11/30/2020 at 2:48 PM, bigjim said: You are wrong. The Zips will win. More details later in the week. That is hilarious. Zero reason to have any hope for this unless other teams are canceling their season You are the same clown that ripped me last week, when I was dead on with the BGSU preduction. This game is a growing step for Akron. Stay on the Outside.
  15. what an unfortunate situation. I hope they keep playing hard.
  16. proud of the D on that drive. I do not think they scored before the knee was down.
  17. Let's go Zips. under 10 minutes till kickoff.
  18. The Zips will take a beating in this game. Looking at common opponents, Buffalo smoked Miami and Kent, two teams that beat us badly. The Ohio game was cancelled, so we cannot compare the scores. The AP has Buffalo ranked at 24, and I would think that they will not want to give up that ranking. Although we beat BGSU badly, they outgained the Zips. I do not expect Buffalo will be turning the ball over. The BGSU win was very important, but it will not be enough to get another Zips victory. 72 ROO - I cannot get a victory as you suggested, I am only making a prediction. However, the Zips will greatly improve next year.
  19. Any word from the coaches if they plan on playing him on the OL or the DL? My guess is the OL since they have 4 DL commitments and only 2 OL commitments to date.
  20. Is someone going to start a 3 for Thursday?
  21. Mr. Ward, I apologize for using the word ignorant. I know that the remainder of what I said is 100% correct, but I used a wrong and hurtful word. I just get frustrated that my fellow alumni set the bar very low, and everyone wonders why we typically have losing seasons. I truly hope that Coach Arth can turn this around. Again, I am sorry for using the word ignorant.
  22. Let's hope that it will be 1-2 years in the future before he is fast enough so that he can play out his availability with Akron.
  23. What an ignorant comment. Stars are not 100% correct, but they matter. This was discussed in a past post where someone brought up several situations over 10-15 years where stars were wrong. If it does not matter, look at the recruiting. Alabama, Clemson, ND, and Ohio state have only recruited 3-5 star recruits, and they are doing fine. They do not sign 1-2 star athletes hoping that they develop. Can Akron play with these 4 schools with their star recruits? No, they cannot play with the MAC. All stars do not pan out, and some no stars do succeed. But, as a rule, stars matter. I am tired of commenting on this subject with folks who do not understand.
