  1. I am going out on a limb that is sawed in half. I picked the Zips to win. I have disagreed with most that Irons has been playing well, but I expect a big game from him tomorrow. We have very good receivers, TE's, and RB's. I also saw that we are getting another DL back. Liberty is good, but I am expecting an upset from the 26,5 pt spread deficit. In Coach JoeMo we Trust!!!
  2. Is someone going to post a score prediction poll for Akron vs. Liberty? I do not know how to do it or if I have the authority to do so. I saw the line has Liberty favored by 26.5 pts.
  3. First of all, you are the best and most competent poster that the Zips nation has ever seen, so I really respect your comments. However, when I see something that I totally disagree with, I will comment. As an alumnus and former athlete, I love my Zips, and I try to be optimistic, but I will comment on points I disagree with. I apologize if I was blunt and rude, but I only have to say: Go Zips!!! PS. Notre Dame beat Cal. Even the best make a mistake 😀
  4. Football Grandma, I typically really enjoy your posts, but I will have to respectfully disagree with this post even though you make some very good points. -The main topic is that all competitive athletes want to play against the best competition. They do not back down. When I was a D1 and high school athlete I enjoyed playing great players and I looked forward to the challenges. -Injuries are risked every time a football player at any level goes onto the field -For my 30+ years of following Akron football, fans and students have not attended the games. This needs to change, but I do not know how to make the modification. -The MAC has not and will not get the best players. Go Zips!!!
  5. To date, I see no difference between the results from Moorhead and Arth. I so hope that I am wrong. I see you are giving JoeMo 3 years, and that is good.
  6. What is the color of the sky in your world? When you lose by 57 points and do not score a TD, nobody looks fantastic. Please post the cool aid recipe that you are drinking so I can be an endless optimist. Irons is probably the best option we have, but the game was an embarassment. Irons was successful on short passes, but he did nothing to put the Zips in position to win. I see other MAC schools scoring multiple TD's on other FBS opponents. Also, lowly BG beat Marshall who beat ND who played competitively with the Suckeyes. Also, Eastern Michigan beat Arizona State and Akron is awful, to be polite. I hope that the fortunes change, but I see no improvement over Arth. Go Zips!!!
  7. I predicted a 4-6 scores loss and the Zips scoring a TD. I expect overall improvements from MSU. Can someone tell me how I can watch this game? I have not seen where it is on TV. thanks
  8. I would love to see the names of those who left and if they were on scholarship or walk-ons. However, that may not be appropriate to list names.
  9. Arth did not bring in much talent, but Bowden also left the cupboard pretty bare when he left. Not sure who did worse.
  10. Thank you for another post that makes me laugh. First of all, Undercuffler did not perform at all yesterday. His play was not good at all, but all I did was state facts to refute a very poor post. If you look at the facts, Irons almost lost to a FCS team in SFU. This is the same team , SFU, that lost to Richmond by more than they lost to Akron. They are not a good team and almost beat my alma mater. I predicted 7 wins based on the transfer portal. But as I watch games now, it looks like most teams used the portal to pick up 20+ players, so Akron was not special at all in using the TP. Whoever QB's or plays, I have and will continue to support them.
  11. Yes sir. He red shirted as a freshman in 2018 playing 4 games. As a R-Fr, he had his breakout season. In 2020, the Colonial Athletic Association canceled fall sports due to Covid. However, they were allowed to play some independent games, and I do not know if they played any games or how many. In 2021, he was injured and played just 3 games. So, there is good reason that his stats were weak the other seasons. Go Zips!!!
  12. NCAA Division 1 core course requirements: Four years of English Three years of math (Algebra 1 or higher) I cannot believe these knuckleheads can pass Algebra I yet alone 2 years higher
  13. I urge all the cable viewers to check their channels prior to the game so that they do not miss the early part of the game. The game is not on my Spectrum BTN network channel 32. However, it is on my BIGTNAHD network, channel 334. Even though I expect a slaughter: Let's go Zips!!!! Let's go Zips!!! Let's go Zips!!!
  14. He would be a fine addition. Keep us posted.
  15. Please forgive my lack of knowledge, but what are the requirements to be D1 eligible? Years ago I knew the requirements, but I do not know them now. thanks
  16. Zips Weekly was on TV last night. I think it was on channel 36, Bally Sports Great Lakes. It also looks like it is on again at 1030 this morning.
  17. Thanks for the great data. As I did with the offensive data, I will make some comments on the numbers of plays for the different players at each position. DL - I like the number of plays and the rotations. Did Jones need more breaks? He was very good but with a couple of more breaks, he might have been more effective. Also, I would like to see a couple more linemen in the rotation, just playing a few plays. LB- good division of PT, but I would like to see Bubba and Boateng get more PT DB - I like the number of players and PT splits ST - As my comments on the offense, I would like to see more up and coming players get some PT on Special Teams Go Zips!!!
  18. Thanks for the data. I will make some comments not on the post but on the splits of playing time. QB - i have made it clear that I am not an Irons guy. But, if he won the QB battle, he deserved to play the entire game as well as the next couple of games. RB - Norrills needs about 25% of the plays WR/TE - I like the numbers of plays. Building good depth OL - I do not like Grey playing, yet alone as much as he did. Good to see Lyons on the 2 deep, even with only 3 plays, where is Murphy? Other than that, I like the division of plays. Building up depth on the OL. ST - disappointed. Players like Lyons and many others could get some valuable experience and PT on Special Teams. Go Zips!!
  19. Following last week's debacle, my first thought was MSU by 5+ scores. then, I remembered that the greatest improvements in football occur between weeks 1 and 2, but this concept will apply to both teams. I looked at the MSU roster and I do not know any players, but I think the lines tell a story. I also watched some film from the MSU vs. WM game. Their OL is huge and deep. They look like they will pose a huge problem. The DT's are also huge and deep. Our OL may have problems opening inside holes. The DE's are not that big, but they put a very good pass rush on the QB. MSU's QB, WR's, and RB's look good but not great. Also, early in the 4th Q, WM was only down 8 points followed by 2 late MSU TD's. With the analysis above, I am modifying my prediction to say Michigan State by 4 scores.
  20. When I played youth ad high school football and other high school and college sports, coaches were always yelling. It turned out to be great experiences for my 35+ years of business career. As a matter of fact, all of the coaches said that yelling showed they cared, and we better get concerned if the yelling stops. Plus, if you whisper during a football game, nobody will hear you. I was valedictorian, and I remember one time I made a mental mistake in HS football practice and was dressed down and told that I could not pass a test; I was motivated. It is quite obvious that you never played sports past TBall since you never experienced constructive yelling. In all my years of coaching TBall and youth sports, I never yelled once, but that was not Division I sports.
  21. My thoughts on the first game. I had picked the Zips to win by at least 4 scores. I did also add a post on the size of the lines of SFU and that they may cause some issues with the Zips. I am listing the Good, Bad, and Ugly in no particular order from the SFU game. Good A Win - A win is a win is a win. No need to apologize. Just Book it!! Akron WR play - It seemed like every play that at least 2 wide receivers were wide open. The transfers played great as well as the existing roster. Punter - Gettman had some fantastic punts, turned the field over Bubba's play - led the team in tackles, but I expect more Victor Jones play -tied Bubba in tackles, had a solid game. Hope he can keep it up Wiley's running -good at times, not so good at other times Tight End play, Branks and Banks played well with the limited number of throws, Brank had a TD catch Irons running - had a couple of nice runs Bad Irons passing - even though he had some connections, his passing was poor based on how open the receivers were all evening. Punt returns - seemed to give up 12-20 yards of field position with every situation in which a fair catch was not made. Irons Decision making - awful, nothing more to say Not playing Norrills - surprise, hate to see him get frustrated and enter the portal. Good player, lots of talent I disagree with above on playing many starters on ST. - I think the players on the frisk need to get PT on ST, get great team buy-in Penalties - Several very bad penalties' Gray - Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane Missed PAT and FG - cannot have from Smigel Ugly Game experience - massive failure by Guthrie. If I was not an alum and former athlete who has paid for tickets, I would not show up again. Sacks - I believe there were 6 sacks, how awful. It was a combination of the OL, lack of RB pickup, and extremely poor decision making by Irons. Favorable Penalty calls - I bleed Akron, but I watch the games objectively. There were 3 critical holding calls, 2 on long passes that came back and one on a punt. When I watched the punt, I could not see a penalty. Also, the same applies on one of the long passes that got called back. SFU missed field goal as a result of a penalty - I listed this as ugly since if it was not for a silly SFU penalty, the Red Flashes may have won in regulation Game not televised - Why would Guthrie agree to a Thursday game that is not televised Win Total prediction - I predicted 7 wins, the pundits said the over/under was 2-2.5. We shall see who is correct. Go Zips
  22. I picked the Zips to win by 4 or more scores yesterday. Then, I see the spread is 14.5 points. I am guessing this has something to do with the lack of information on the Zip transfers that showed up in the preseason predictions. Even though I guess that Vegas does a much better job at understanding talent and transfers than the preseason predictions, I still feel that this spread is low. But, Vegas does not have a history on this new team and coach. Two of the things I check out when I look at teams is the Offensive and Defensive Lines. I am a believer that if you have big and good Line play, you will either be in or win more games. I went to the SFU website to look at the roster and coaches. First of all, I was surprised to see their head coach was a 11 year veteran of the NFL and was an All Pro Lineman for 2 years. He obviously knows football. I do not know any of the players on the roster, but I did note that there are 9 300+ lb offensive linemen on the roster along with several more approaching 300 lb. They have some OL depth. On the Defensive Line, I counted 5 players who weigh 275 lb or more along with several other Defensive Linemen around 250 lbs. So, they have some decent size on the D Line. With all of this data, I still think the Zips will blow them out. In Coach JoeMo we Trust!!!!
  23. I paid before it went electronic. I did get emails from Akron, but none regarding tickets.
