On men's soccer: With WVU in need of a conference affiliation since the Big 12 doesn't compete in the sport, Luck said Coach Marlon LeBlanc's program will play in the Mid-American Conference.

"There are still some formalities to be worked out, but it's my understanding the coaches and the MAC commissioner are all very supportive of our membership," Luck said. "It would be a four-year commitment."

WVU would give the MAC eight teams in men's soccer, with the Mountaineers joining Hartwick (N.Y.) and Florida Atlantic as members outside the MAC core group, which includes men's soccer teams at Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.

Luck also said he expects a recommendation "by the end of the summer" from a WVU committee on starting a men's golf program (that is a Big 12 sport).

Looks like it's everything but official.

DeAndre will like this...one of his ex youth soccer buddies recently joined WVU

WVU has a nice, soccer-only stadium with beautiful surroundings near the WVU Coliseum. This will be a good road trip when the Zips are at WVU. If the MAC is smart, they'll schedule Akron-WVU on weekends to maximize attendance and build the rivalry.

WVU is a great addition. They bring a name brand and a perennial Top-25 program. They have met us twice in the NCAA Tournament recently and got whooped both times, once in the snow. They don't like us at all. This has the makings of a strong rivalry!

Kentucky and South Carolina are two schools similar to WVU...they are in BCS conferences that don't sponsor men's soccer. They would be great additions to the MAC, but I believe they are both currently affiliated with CUSA.

Soccer is also good for WVU. Many members of the faculty and students attend games just to look and the strange things on the players feet which prevent them from seeing the players toes.

A related observation: What do you have if all 45 members of the Mountaineers soccer fan club are in a room?

page down........

A full set of teeth.
