Olympic High senior B.J. Gladden, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, has committed to Akron, Trojans coach Ty Baumgardner said.

Gladden chose the Zips over schools like Wake Forest and Tennessee, according to Olympic coaches. Gladden averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds at Charlotte's Kennedy Charter Public School, helping the Eagles to a 28-3 record last season

B.J. Gladden showcased his skillset in front of Wake Forest assistant coach Jeff Battle at least three times in a two-day stretch [Friday, April 27-Saturday, April 28] at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Va.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Charlotte (NC) Kennedy Charter small forward said it was good to see Battle there and that the Demon Deacons are at the top in his recruitment.

"I'm real cool with the people at Wake Forest," Gladden said. "I like Wake. I like Wake a lot. Skip Prosser used to coach there. My uncle used to play for him, so it's a good relationship at Wake. It's close to home, and that's always good."

Walt Corbean is Gladden's primary recruiter for the Deacs.

"We [he and Corbean] have talked a couple times," Gladden said. "He's a cool coach. I like him. He was telling me about the style at Wake, and I like the style at Wake. It's cool. It's a good situation."

Along with Wake Gladden is hearing the most from Tennessee, UNC-Charlotte and Xavier. He wants to choose a school between his junior and senior season.

B.J. Gladden's stock began to rise this off season and he continues to be a hot commodity. The 2013 shooting guard heled 6 offers when Scout.com last spoke to him in June. Since that time his work on the AAU circuit has landed him 5 additional offers, including one from the ACC and another from the SEC. Come inside to see why he's in the midst of "blowing up"!
