WE NEED A BIG MAN!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Wow! I've thought Pitt was one of the better teams in all of college basketball all year now, but watching how they man handled Can't was shocking! Is the ANYONE out there who NOW does not believe we should be looking for a 6'10" junior college center/power forward? We might be able to win the MAC next year w/ Romeo (6'7"), Jeremiah Wood (6'6"), and TRUE FRESHMEN Mike Bardo (6'9") and Chris McKnight (6'7"), BUT DON'T WE WANT MORE THAN THAT?!?!?!?!Shouldn't we be thinking Sweet 16 run next year?!?!The MAC is fun, but don't we aspire to be a nationally dominant mid-major?We are currently looking at 6'3" stud shooting guard Lance Jeter from Pittsburgh. But I didn't think we needed another shooting guard before watching that slaughter last night! I SURE DON'T THINK WE NEED ONE NOW!!! We need a JC BIG MAN!!!What's The Nation think???

Akron needs a player "who plays like a big man."Wes Unseld was on 6'7" but he played big.Charles Barkley was only 6'4" but played big.Russell Holmes (during the Huggins era at Akron) was a miniscule 6'3" but played big.The Cleveland Cavaliers have a 7'3" man who plays little.I repeat, it is not as much the height as it is how the player plays the position.

Dead on, ZipAnalyst. Our "big" men have always played on the soft side, much as you describe Z for the Cavs. Height helps but give me a ton of desire and passion. Pitt's Aaron Gray was fun to watch - what a moose!

Yeah, you guys are right. Jeremiah Wood is only 6'6" but plays bigger than anyone we put out on the court this year. Having said that, the thrust of my question is regarding the recruitment of another shooting guard. What you guys are saying is, "It doesn't matter how 'tall' our big men are, as long as we have big men." So I suppose you are implicitly agreeing that we need a big man as opposed to another guard?

while its true that as long as the player plays big, we'll do fine, but we dont have one guy who would come close to stopping Pitt's monsters. Our best hope is for Caleb Porter to stumble upon a 7'4" 325 pound beast from Serbia, while scouting some soccer players. Maybe the beast hasn't heard of schools like Duke and Texas and OSU, and all he has heard about is how Akron was ranked number 1 in the nation in soccer. Hopefully he will then commit to Akron based on that. Then after we go 38-0, winning by 40 points each game, top ranked players will want to come to Akron. Then we can move to the Big East in football and Basketball. Bringing home a BCS title and a NCAA title, all the while Can't is using bitch players like Kevin Warzynski.

KD has said repeatedly that a great program requires an effective In/Out game with movement added in.There is no defense to the double whammy offense with lots of motion mixed in.But it does take the right pieces to make this plan work.KD clearly understands how to plan and he also knows that he needs to recruit the correct combination of players. If Akron University empowers KD with recruiting resources, he will get the job done by building a team competing for a national championship within five years. In two to three years the JAR will be bursting at the seams and then there will be a rush to build a facility to catch up with the explosive growth of the on-court product. To be at that level, all the players will have to be, and indeed, will be playing big!

6'10" jucos, other than total stiffs, can go anywhere they want in D1 land, pretty much. It'd be difficult to lure such a guy to Akron. The Zips best hope is to get "project" big guys as freshmen and develop them. And Balki, if your prediction comes true (and it will), screw the Big East, we should be able to take that permanent invite the Big Ten always has for Notre Dame. :D
