Yedlin makes US 30

Recommended Posts

I heard the same while in Recife that the families did not make it to the match. It rained the entire time I was in Recife from 9am to 4pm. It only let up a little after the match was over.

Crew8, I take it you haven't run into Bisbee and Tank in Brasil...?

I wasn't there in Brazil, but I saw Bisbee and the Mrs. on the broadcast when they panned a portion of the crowd around 53:16 in the match. Nice USA doo rag on his head.

Having 4 ex-Zips on the 23-player 2018 U.S. roster would be pretty amazing. I wonder if any university has ever placed 4 former players together on a U.S. World Cup roster?

UCLA had 5 players on the WC roster in 2006 and 1994 http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/college-soccer-and-the-2014-wc-team.2005122/

This is kinda fun to revisit.

Humble and talented, DeAndre Yedlin has a promising career ahead of him (si.com, January 31, 2014)

http://www.si.com/soccer/planet-futbol/2014/01/31/deandre-yedlin-seattle-sounders-us-mens-national-team

"...A trip to Brazil is unlikely. ..."

"...At some point, Yedlin’s ascendancy will have to slow down. He’d be on his way to Brazil and then the Premier League this summer if it continued at its present pace...."

Not sure what the latest news on Yedlin is, but it looks like the transfer to AS Roma fell through. They offered Seattle $4.1 million for him, but wont take less than $6.5 million. http://mlsmultiplex.com/2014/07/20/ranking-deandre-yedlin-options-overseas/

Regardless, Seattle is going to have to start paying him DP money soon if they want to keep him. With all the money the league is getting from expansion, let's hope they increase the amount of DP's a team can sign. I will just have to suffer watching the Crew be a bottom dweller in the standings. Good thing there's no relegation.

MLS doesn't need to increase the # of DPs they just need to increase the salary cap. No need to increase the DP slots until most teams have owners willing to spend for more than 3. Right now when Columbus, Chicago, New England, etc. only have one. If they add more spots, the team with owners who have deep pockets will only go further ahead.

Aside from the "Akron University" reference, the following is a pretty good, in-depth article on Deandre.

http://grantland.com/features/deandre-yedlin-world-cup-2014-newfound-fame-transfer-to-european-club-mls-soccer/

... In walked Landon Donovan. He told his teammates what the rest of the world would soon find out: For the first time in more than a decade, he wouldn’t be playing in the World Cup. Yedlin was stunned, but in his head, he’d done the math. Seven players gone. Twenty-three left.

He called Dylan, his uncle, the man who’d taught him how to play.

“Oh my god,” DeAndre said.

“Holy shit,” said Dylan.

“Ho-leeee shit.”

It dawned on Yedlin: His life would never be the same.
