US Soccer Announces Changes

Recommended Posts

might mark the end of the weekend tournament structure, formerly a college soccer staple, and hopefully more games as well

if this means more wednesday/saturdays and fewer friday/sundays i'm all for it. the actual need for more recovery time is kind of mitigated by ncaa substitution rules, though

I think the only way for NCAA Soccer to have any relevance is to collaborate with US Soccer and be more a part of player development. I hope NCAA changes the substitution rules. I don't understand why NCAA Baseball follows the pro rules but soccer does not. IMHO, NCAA doesn't need to limit to 3 subs, but at least make it that once a player subs out, the player is out for the match.

I hope they would move to the Spring if they made the season longer. I would not like to see the season run any later in the year. We have been pretty lucky weather-wise but some of the late season matches have been tough to take watching and must be tough to play in. I especially hate to see tournament matches in bad conditions. At least in the Spring the bad weather would affect the early season and not the tournaments.

One of the ideas under consideration is to split the season, half in early Fall, half in late Spring.

Seems pretty strange to have that long of a break and then just continue on with the same season months later. I would like to see the season run at the same time as college baseball, February to May. Although that wouldn't lengthen the season, I suppose.
