85. Central Michigan: Going to be the best team in the MAC, most likely, in what's setting up to be one of the weaker MAC campaigns of the past decade.

97. Can't State: Rob Senderoff's group finished 12-6 last year in the MAC and returns All-league player Jimmy Hall. If they can replace three starters around him, they'll have a chance to compete for the league's crown.

126. Buffalo: The Bulls made the first NCAA Tournament in program history last season. Kind of surprising, right? Bobby Hurley made it happen. And he's gone, to Arizona State. The best player on the team/best player in the MAC, Justin Moss. He's gone, too. Booted from school. Comedown year (to say the least) for Buffalo.

133. Akron: The Zips have won 20 games 10 years in a row, and Keith Dambrot is a terrific coach. That's probably the baseline this season, as they return three seniors in Pat Forsythe, Reggie McAdams and Jake Kretzer to help them return to the top of the East.

182. Western Michigan: Tucker Hammond was very efficient. If he's able to play better on the boards, WMU will clearly see dividends. Connor Tava an important senior here.

183. Toledo: Could go either way here. We're splitting the difference. The Rockets lose their three most important players, in addition to sophomore Kurt Hall. Coaches in the league expect a decent squad, though.

211. Northern Illinois: Middle-of-the-road MAC club. Will not be as good a rebounding team because Jordan Threloff, maybe the best on the boards in the conference last season, graduated.

215. Ohio: Saul Phillips' program won 10 games last season, and losing Mo Ndour is a big-time blow. Freshman starter Ryan Taylor opted to transfer. Sort of a mystery team here.

260. Miami-Ohio: Lots of seniors here, and they return a majority of their contributors. They might be able to go slightly over .500 in the MAC if things broke right.

263. Eastern Michigan: Rob Murphy is a Jim Boeheim disciple and led his team to 21 wins last year. Could be a tougher road this year though, as he loses a lot from last year's team.

271. Ball State: Could surprise, but there is the possibility this team just falls on its face. Won just seven games last season.

284. Bowling Green: Expected by league coaches to be the worst team in the MAC. Chris Jans was fired in April after an embarrassing and inappropriate video of Jans with a woman at a bar -- who was rebuffing his behavior -- surfaced. Michael Huger was hired to replace Jans and has a long MAC history.

Akron is the best team the MAC, and I really don't think it's close. CMU is the next closest competition and they live and die by the three--even more than Akron did at the end of last season. Shooting the three can make you really good, but they lack the other qualities of a championship caliber team.

I would like to share the enthusiasm about our team and I am hopeful that everyone is right. But we had a couple of weaknesses last year that need to be addressed before this team can move forward.

Last year this team was 2nd in the nation in 3 point attempts and 127th in 3 point percentage. Everyone on this team like to shoot the 3 ball. (Pat excluded) This team lacked guys who could drive to the basket and could create their own shot. Early in the season we often struggled at the end of games because we did not have a go to guy. Our forwards this year, Jake, Reggie, and Kwan, are mainly 3 point shooters. I am curious this year if Kwan has gotten stronger and developed an inside game and learned to get to the basket. His development will be a key for next year. Deji was our best guy getting to the basket and he is gone. When we struggle from the 3 line we were not very good.

Last year we also struggled getting to the free throw line. We ranked 296th out of 356 in free throws attempted. In other words we sucked at getting to the foul line. Deji was our best guy getting to the line followed by Pat and Big Dog. These 3 players took over half of our foul shots. And when we did get to the line, we did not shoot our foul shots well and ranked 258th in the nation in foul shot percentage. We need to get to the line more and shoot better from the line. And remember, these stats include a very weak schedule at the beginning of the season.

I am curious to see if this team will be more balanced. Looking forward to watching the team this year.

See 1981Grad... now you are stating facts and addressing actual issues (backed by real numbers). We don't like to do that with our basketball program. We prefer to close our eyes, drink cool aid, and talk about the sweet 16.

Hey! You forgot something. . .

Akron was better than Ken+ last year.

Ken+ losses 3 starters.

So, Ken+ gets placed about 40 spots ahead of Akron ??????

I really think this is another area where we get penalized, on paper, for not having any "Stars". Ken+ has their star returning (and the only guy mentioned under their profile), which gets the prognosticators all excited. So be it.

Dickie V. has it right, at least when looking at the personnel and depth. We at least, on paper, match up favorably with probably anyone in the MAC.
