I can't find much of anything confirming the two Oregon commitments beyond their initial tweets, but Oregon isn't much of a HS football hotbed, with very few recruits and very little media coveragecoverag

I had never heard of Hillsboro, Oregon, but it's an extremely fast growing city outside of Portland (population was 8,000 in 1960 and now 102,000). Intel employs 18,000 in the city, so seems like a place that should have some good athletes.

One request, would you be able to put the commit's hudl link next to their names?

Hudl links can be found in each individual commitment's thread. This is just going to be a list, and I'm only keeping it up to date because the five different websites that pay people to do this can't be bothered.

Sad to say, but some of these guys gave a verbal to Akron to reserve a spot if nothing better comes along. Any of our verbals that blow up during their senior year are probably gone. In todays world Purdue isn't a better choice than Akron. However, they have a bigger name and some history.

According to this article, Marcus Kidd was recruited by the Zips to play OT.

I'll definitely look for this article in tomorrow's ABJ/Ohio.com:

http://www.ohio.com/blogs/varsity-letters/abjvarsity-1.279974/2016-abj-football-preview-scheduled-to-be-available-friday-1.706933

The 2016 Akron Beacon Journal High School Football preview section is scheduled to be in print and available to readers in the newspaper and online on Friday.

There will be several previews about teams and leagues, capsules on teams and feature stories on top players and top teams.

Additionally, the ABJ will publish an article on area senior players who have committed to play football at the University of Akron. Nine local players have pledged to be Zips in 2017, and there could be more commitments coming in the near future. UA already has several area players on its roster that helped the Zips win the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Is the sleeping giant finally awakening?

A ways to go before the giant is awakened, but the train is rolling in the right direction.
