2017 Zips Representing the USA

  • 2 weeks later...

This happened in 2016, but since it was friendlies "warming up" for 2017 qualifying for U20 World Cup, I'll put it here...

Jonathan Lewis saw action as a sub for the U20's in both friendlies in December. There is no mention of how he did, but nice to see that he was in both the draw and win with decent minutes...

Excellent, Wil Trapp and Darlington Nagbe --- USA!

"...Since the camp does not fall during a recognized FIFA international window for the release of players, only those who are not in season are available to be selected. ..." Therefore, no possibility to have had Deandre Yedlin or Perry Kitchen called into this January camp.

Jonathan Lewis has been called up to represent his country for the U.S. U20 Men's National Team. ...

The U20 MNT head coach Tab Ramos named 24 players to his January Camp roster, including NYCFC's newest acquisition, MLS Combine MVP Jonathan Lewis.

Lewis will travel to Carson, California for the training camp which will take place from Jan. 15 - 23 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center where the team will prepare for the U20 World Cup qualifying tournament. ...

Actually, I don't think he has to travel anywhere since the draft was in LA. Perhaps he has to change hotels. :D

DarNag was consensus MOTM in an otherwise lackluster match vs. Serbia.

Parchman: Why Darlington Nagbe shouldn't be judged on goals and assists

...The reality, though, is that Nagbe is a wholly different sort of player. He is a tactical marvel unto himself, and perhaps shifting the locus of concern specifically off what he does on the scoresheet and onto his concrete impact on the flow of the match itself will utterly change his perception. And it should. ...

article is littered with good comments about JLew

The Americans finally hit back in the 28th through a lovely bit of ingenuity from newly installed left winger and recent NYCFC draftee Jonathan Lewis. The former Akron man replaced the Sebastian Saucedo/Emmanuel Sabbi rotation from the Panama match and was largely the U.S.’s most dangerous threat in the attacking third. In the 28th minute, he snuck inside his marker and into the box, where he was scythed down to earn a penalty Lennon hit to draw level.

and Lewis came in for Saucedo, and the latter move certainly paid dividends

While center forward Jeremy Ebobisse’s struggles to finish continued, he was lifted by the performances of his pinching wide players in Lewis and Lennon.
