Groce will be introduced to the campus and community during a news conference on Thursday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at the Student Union (Starbucks stage). Parking will be available in the Lot 36 Deck off of Exchange Street. The event will be streamed live on GoZips.com and Facebook Live.

All fans are invited to a Meet-and-Greet at 6 p.m. on the E.J. Thomas Hall Stage. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. (please enter through the blue door). Light refreshments and a cash bar will be provided.

Has anyone ever gone to one of these meet-and-greets? What are they like? I'm contemplating whether or not to rearrange my schedule to attend.

I feel like "meet and greets" are always cheesy and a little bit awkward. Especially coming from a big school, the turnout will probably be a little bit depressing for Groce. I'd hope that maybe the Rowdies can get a big group to go or something. It would be nice to give him a warm welcome.

If they duplicate their recent JAR attendance and enthusiasm, no one will notice they're there.

Mike Thomas was quoted in the PD story:  "[W]hen you go through any experience, you should be a lot smarter and a lot better for it."  That reminded me of a former boss who was fond of saying, "Good judgment is the result of experience.  Experience is what you gain from bad judgment."

I suspect that Groce arrived in Champaign-Urbana thinking he had the world by the tail.  I hope that he now feels fortunate to be able to continue doing what he loves.
