Game 11—Bobcats @ Zips

K92

Gutsy defense by Amato. We went after the run and they had to throw it, and they blinked. Coach Mounds is the bomb. Second half D really stepped up and stopped the run. Loved the pressure we put on Rourke after we got in his head. They had Daily's number, but the rest of the D really played well.

Random thoughts:

1. Worst special teams of the year. Probably where attrition through injury was most obvious. Specialists had a rough night, though.

2. Kato was so much better tonight. He seemed to have had some good coaching over the week and the 1st half, in particular, was an excellent game plan. Pass opened up the run in the first half.

3. I have no idea how we won.

As much as I was pleading with everyone on this board to have "hope" over the last few days, I have to admit the following:

1) When I saw that Kato was our starting QB, my hope faded.

2) When OU scored on their first drive in 2 plays, my hope faded even more.

3) When OU took at early 21-10 lead, I think I lost all hope.

4) When the officials tagged us with about a 10 to 1 margin in penalty yardage, and kicked out 2 of our players, it was official that everything that could go against us was surely going against us.

And somehow.......We overcame all of that, and won the game.

Wow.

I 100% concur with all of the above.

Skip for once I must agree with you!  I thought the same thing.

Quite a wide range of emotions from pg 1 to the end of the thread at bobcatattack.  Such an unstable bunch.....

I saw them whining about a potential 5 loss Akron team making the MAC Championship game. Let's compare out of conference schedules shall we? They played Hampton we played Arkansas pine-bluff I'll call that a wash. Their Big Ten opponent was Purdue we got Penn State. Their Big 12 opponent was the worst P5 team in all of college football we drew a team that barely missed their championship game. Our last out-of-conference opponent was Troy who beat LSU is 8-2 and is probably going to win the Sun Belt. Ohio's last out-of-conference opponent was 3 and 7 U Mass. Let's swap out of conference schedules and see exactly how good the Bobcats would be because our MAC records are exactly the same.  #FUOU #Tenyears

If only there was an easy way to see who the better team is ;)

I can finally claim that something I harp about on the basketball threads now applies to the football threads.

So I will say it here.   Maybe the fact that we were able to challenge our guys with high-level D-1 competition early in the season is paying dividends now.  And maybe OU's inability to challenge their guys in those games has not.

This is why I'll always support the idea of scheduling the best teams out there.

Penn State, ISU, and Troy are all having outstanding seasons.  Even if those last 2 ended up being even better than we expected, those experiences, even in a losing effort, probably had great value to us today.

In his interview after the game, he stated that he watched a lot of film this week, and took what the defense gave him. He said he started underneath, and when they moved in on him, he took it over the top. Coach Bowden also said that they worked with him to move the ball forward, and to not take so many backwards plays. If Kato can continue to progress as much as he did from last week to this week, Zip fans can be in for a fun ride.

Edit: Coney was in an arm sling when he was celebrating with the team.

Tommy Who?

They should officially make. Him the starter right now regardless of Woody's off field issues. They are at least as good with him in there. He is the the guy for the next three years. Get him as many reps as possible going into next season.

I am good if Bowden plays the mystery game with the media. No need to tip our hand.

He's also had luck go against him...(last year...all the injuries)...so I guess he was due...the zips were due...a karma correction.

I'd contend this year as well. Losing two of your three captains to injury plus your backup RB. Doesn't sound too lucky to me this year either. Props to Manny Morgan too - dude ran hard.
