Non-Conference Future Schedules

Freeze was hired right on top of the early signing date from what I can tell.  Of the players that were left for February, the average star rating of the players he signed was well beyond our's.  They signed a four star corner with offers from Clemson, Auburn, Virginia Tech, and many more .  When was the last time we did something like that? You can hate evangelical Christians all you want to, but Liberty doesn't appear to have any problem recruiting.  They were a playoff team in FCS and with the facilities and support I've seen first hand that they now have, they will be far beyond MAC level competition in short order.  Dumb scheduling decision.  If we're going to go on the road and lose, again, make it to an SEC or Big 10 team.

Their basketball team also looks to be a lot better than ours with a roster full of black players. 23-5 and tearing trough the A-Sun.

You're joking, right? Hugh Freeze was hired BEFORE Arth and most of the other new coaching hires. Despite this Akron managed to finish 112th in 247 composite rankings. Liberty managed to finish 134th, which is dead last among FBS schools and even behind several FCS schools. According to the composite rankings, which is an average of all the major recruiting sites, Liberty has 0 4* recruits. Peter Hayes-Patrick, an Akron RB commit, had listed offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Ohio State, and a host of other schools.

Liberty plays basketball in the A-Sun, the 22nd rated conference, compared to the MAC being rated as the 8th best. A-Sun teams are the type of cupcakes that we pay to come to the JAR to take a beating. Akron's record would be much better if instead of playing a ranked Buffalo, we were instead playing teams like Kennesaw State, Stetson, North Alabama, Jacksonville, North Florida, etc. At the same time Liberty wouldn't be 23-5 in the MAC. That's not to say Liberty isn't the slightly better team this year. They probably are, but at the same time I'd rank them behind several of Dambrot's teams that Akron has had in recent years past. Besides I never said Liberty can't compete at G5 in football or at the mid-major level in basketball. I however am a firm believer they will never be able to compete at a P5 level in football or a high major level in basketball.

I'm not going on a crusade against evangelical Christians. I'm simply stating facts. Up to this point they have shown no evidence that they will be competing at a P5 level in football or as a high major in basketball. They competed at the FCS level for 29 years. Guess how many FCS playoffs they made in that time? The answer is 1. They couldn't dominate the FCS, but you expect them to come in and dominate the FBS at a P5 level right off the bat. On the basketball side, the only postseason tournament game they've ever won is a CIT game.

 Lose to Liberty.

If we lose to Libertyr...an institution that has the audacity to charge people $17,000 a year to teach them that the world is 5,000 years old...an idea that literally kills brain cells typing/reading, and has a fervid white supremacist as it's figure-head...we deserve to nix our football program forever.  Because losing to such an institution means we, as a real institution of education, shouldn't give them the time-of-day.

So I do in a sense agree with you.  No self-respecting modern University should give Liberty University the time of day.

Akron is hosting Liberty in 2022.

The last time we played Liberty was memorable...

I recall walking into the Rubber Bowl with about 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter, and we were losing 14-0.

I recall Bobby Hendry ran for a bazillion yards that day.

I recall Lee Owens executed an onside kick with the Zips winning 41-14, late in the game. I also recall a Liberty coach subsequently screaming profanities out the Rubber Bowl press box...something about Owens being a "Classless Mother #@!*%."

They can have the nicest facilities in the US and it wouldn't matter. Good luck trying to recruit African-American athletes when the university president is a neo-nazi/white supremacist apologist.

The following link will show you how correct you are.  Do you see a single black guy on their roster?  Same with the coaching staff if you check that out.

Paul Rutigliano?   I'm no fan of Liberty but I see multiple African Americans on the coaching staff

What's your point? Neither of those wins are all that great. UCLA fired their coach in December because of poor performance and are currently rated as the #116 team in the country. They aren't even good enough to make the NIT this year.

Congrats, they beat Kent by 12 fewer points than we did and its not like our season is anything to write home about.

They hired a head coach with a history of recruiting violations - from giving money/cars to players, to hiring female escorts for his players - and somehow there's a focus on race?

Well, ok then.

I just want to beat Liberty unlike we were able to with FAU and Lane Kiffin. I like playing these obscure schools with coaches I dislike. Gives me a reason to get excited.

I think that was his point . . . in response to the proposition that no African-Americans would go to Liberty.

Those words were never spoken. Liberty has something like 100k students between their online school and campus. I'm well not all 100k are white caucasians. All I was trying to say is that I feel their presidents comments would negatively impact their recruiting efforts and that I don't feel they will ever be able to recruit well enough to reach a P5 level like many here are trying to say they will.

I don't follow Liberty. Can you enlighten me and share exactly what was said that makes him a neo-nazi? (Or if too inappropriate, share a link) Or did he simply con comply with a leftist litmus test?

Kreed and some others clearly want use this thread to lay bare their own politics and religious bigotry. I simply meant to talk about LU’s athletic program and what I’ve seen with my own two eyes. Their facilities and financial support are unreal, and now that they’ve hired a coach who has shown a marked ability to take multiple programs from the bottom to the top very quickly, I don’t think this is a wise scheduling decision for us. Let’s keep the discussion to football.

I know what you meant and I simply responded with evidence that they are recruiting rather well.  And, despite your chagrin, they seem to be doing exactly what you think is not possible.  Regardless of what any of us think about Liberty, they are building an outstanding athletic program in many sports.

Sigh, we have years of this conversation to endure.  Perhaps we should create a "Bash Liberty" thread and keep this one to the football scheduling conversation.
