Lost in yesterday's misery was this^^ bit of good - maybe even great - news!

247 Sports dot com gives Clarke 3-stars

Extremely promising scouting report on Garvin from PrepHoops dot com

YouTube interview with Euclid coach T.J. Kwasniak - Garvin played at Euclid last year

Garvin has length, huge hands & looks explosive, effortlessly dunking in this twitter clip

With Garvin and Greg Tribble, we're now seemingly set at PG for the next 5 years.  Nice position to be in.  Plus, 2021 Zips recruiting target - SG E.J. Farmer - has also transferred to Cleveland Heights, so maybe this gives us an edge in also signing him?

Here are some more videos of Gavin Clarke. He will be our next LCJ, but he is listed at 6 foot. He is a pass first point guard able to deliver on target on time. His shot looks to be a work in progress. He is your primary ball handler for sure with tight handles, but he will have to reign in some of his style points because Groce won't except him turning it over being careless. He is athletic and he has that turbo burst to lead a fast break or attack the lane.

Checked in this morning with my good friend who is Head Coach of Heights T & F....says Garvin is a great kid with outstanding potential, and he feels their new coach JR Brimmer will develop even more as a player and person under his leadership in the coming year.  JR played at St. Bonnie as well as with the Cavs and Warriors, if you recall.  Anyway...all thumbs up by an insider....

P.S. What position is CG?

My guess would be Combo Guard. And I define a combo guard as a point guard who can be productive off the ball as a shooting guard as well. This year Tyler Cheese will be a combo guard. And I would guess out of necessity LCJ will be a combo guard also. Next year Greg Tribble will likely practice at all guard positions and Gavin Clarke will focus on running the point.

The 2019 recruiting class was so hard to follow and rightfully so. And this 2020 class does have one lingering wild card in Mikal Dawson. Let me just say, Deuce Deuce, if you're out there - bust your ass and qualify!! I am really bullish on this guy and want to see him play for the Zips. All we know is that he didn't qualify for this season. But at the same time he has welcomed new players to Akron on his twitter account and his twitter avatar still declares himself a proud Zip recruit. So I have to believe it's his scholarship to lose.

If Dawson qualifies, that would leave one scholarship left for the 2020 class since we just added point guard, Garvin Clarke. When you study Verbal Commits you will notice a concentration of offers at the Power Forward position. That would be nice. And as mentioned by Dirtyolcrowe, a blitz of offers has been unleashed over the last few days including a shooting guard, a few wings and our latest walk-on Forward, Enrique Freeman might be in the running for a scholarship according to VC. So maybe Dawson is not a lock? Or maybe at this point Groce will take the best player he can get regardless of position? Those of you who spend time around campus please report any recruit sightings. The early signing period is coming up (November 13 - 20). We should know more about this class soon enough.

This may be a possibility.  I had heard he was taking a class or classes at Stark Tech, so maybe that's his avenue to qualifying.

No letters of Intent in today... yet (2:15 p.m.).

I don't know what kind of competition Taylor Currie is facing at Mott Community College, but he's done well his first two games.

This tweet is from his first game:

18 points & 14 rebounds.  He did only shoot 33%, so it'd be nice to see a higher shooting percentage.  But it was only game #1.

This tweet is from Mott's 2nd game:

23 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks.

So still no LOI's yet? Making me a bit nervous.

Not yet.  And I'm with you.

I could think of a couple reasons the Zips Men's Basketball staff may have for holding off on announcing any signings just yet.  (Jared Embick did something similar in announcing the men's soccer recruits last year almost a week after NLOI Day.)  So what really makes me nervous is that neither Taylor Currie nor Garvin Clarke have announced that they have signed on their respective twitter pages.

At the risk of dating myself, your definition of a "combo guard" used to be the definition of a "guard".
