Game 20- Northern Illinois Huskies

The Huskies come to Akron Saturday as the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The Huskies are 11-8 overall and 4-2 in the MAC.  They have wins over OU, Miami, the Zips and Buffalo, with losses to Central and PCCC.  As you will recall, the Zips took a huge dump in DeKalb going from a 34-25 halftime lead to a 73-56 loss.  Huskies' scoring is led by 6 foot junior guard Eugene German's 20.6 ppg while 6'9" senior forward Lacey James leads rebounding at 7 rpg.

The Huskies will be feeling their oats coming off of their upset of #14 Buffalo last night.

This is an important game. With a win we'd slide into some sort of tie for at least 4th place and a pretty good chance at 3rd considering the Flushes play Buffalo who will be extra motivated coming off a loss. The MAC is a cluster $%@* this year. Who would have guessed through 6 games Bowling Green would be in sole possession of 1st place?

Feeling their "Oats?" Really?

Looking for a big letdown for them. Also, Zips need to win against all 4 directional schools.

Not crying over Ball States troubles.  Hawkins and Saul on the way out?  MAC East is dominant again.  Almost need Buffalo to wipe out the MAC East except for us of course.  Will really help with seeding

Saul is in the last year of his contract so unless an unexpected turnaround these next 2 months I'd say he's definitely gone. Hawkins has 1 year left on his deal after this season. Whether he stays or goes depends on if WMU wants to be cheap or not.

Saul is gone.  Done deal.  Nice guy but his model of the type of player needed to win in the MAC couldn't be more wrong.  Slow, white, cerebral players are getting crushed by pure athletes.  Huge miss on the part of Ohio's AD, and he knows it.

What does their recruiting class look like next year? I know the board talked some about not expect TB to be able to recruit *if* he were going into the last year of his contract. Curious if it plays out in reality as you'd think it would in theory.

I know STVM’s Lunden McDay is an OU verbal.  Nice player.

What does white have to do with it?

He's still having nightmares of McAdams, Kretzer, McNeese, and Linhart dominating O-Who & the MAC. Damn those slow, white, cerebral players...

Been thinking all year how much better this team would be with a Reggie or Jake on the wing!

Had this exact conversation with a friend this week.  We need a sniper that's out there getting floor burns.

Reggie and Jake didn't carry us too far.

After PCCC@Ravenna's loss tonight, tomorrow is a must win.

4 point favorites.

The Zips have never been “too far”, so you’re correct. I think the point was this team suffers from 3 point shooting. Those two were fairly solid.  Let’s hope our current rooster shoots lights out today!

Reggie and Jake were great assets to the team, but they went into slumps as well (Jake especially).  The key is to slump at the right time.

they need a run!  that is only way to generate interest.  Parking sucks and is BS for $10.  I'm OK with concessions but what about apparel?  an ice cream truck is bigger then our team shop!  yeah...t-shirt give aways are cool.  but who wants to wear a t-shirt when its 4 degrees out side and you have to walk 500 yds to get to the arena??  get some threads in there.  set up a little shop upstairs too, like the consessions.

Someone mentioned giving tickets to area youth basketball programs.  That is an outstanding idea!  Hell...have them gather at their rec center and pick em up in a Zips van...like they are part of the team and then drop them off!  How cool would that be??  you could have them feel like part of the team.  give them a couple of trinkets.

bottom...we need to win, hopefully its in March......Go Zips!
