MAC Men’s Basketball - Catch-all Thread

Jim Boehiem is obviously not a fan of our Canadian rivals-

Some highlights-

The University at Buffalo might not be welcomed back to the Carrier Dome anytime soon, and as far as Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is concerned "there's no way they're ever going to play here again."

Boeheim said on his weekly radio show Wednesday that UB was trash-talking throughout the game and then didn't accept the loss graciously.

“Buffalo trash-talked the whole game,” Boeheim said on the show, according to syracuse.com. “They were trash-talking after the game. So there’s no way they’re ever going to play here again. We don’t need that and it’s not very representative of what you should do. They’re up there, ‘Well, we should have won.’ No. You play 40 minutes. Then you play an overtime. Who is ahead at end of the game is the team that should win. That’s the team that should have won. Period."

Loved when they lost to Miami in 1st round last March.

Northern Illinois has finally had enough of the Mark Montgomery experiment. He's been fired after a 1-7, 0-3 MAC start. Only win was over Chicago State.

Apparently, Olivet's schedule was full.

Damn, they got beat by 20 by SIU Edwardsville.

Their website states it a little oddly- "Northern Illinois University will make a change in its men's basketball head coaching position and will separate from head coach Mark Montgomery effective immediately..."   I wonder if it's a conscious uncoupling and whether they'll ask everyone to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Kent blew a smaller lead against Toledo.  84-82 final.  Pippen scored 32 points.  BG rolling over CMU and Ohio holding off NIU for the moment.

I watched that game on replay tonight to sort of scout Toledo.  Both Kent & Toledo looked good.  Toledo's on a roll.  They outscored Kent 5-0 in the last minute of the game to win by 2.  Marreon Jackson is the 2nd best PG in the league.  He hit a deeeeep, clutch 3 to tie the score in the last minute of the game.  They've also got a great freshman in Ryan Rollins; kid's gonna be a true stud.  They've got a 3-point specialist in Duquene transfer Spencer Littleson.  They're a handful.

Yuck. 1.  PTSD from the Toledo game last year.

           2.  Toledo always chokes.

He's got MAC POY potential.  He struggled with knee issues during his high school career & so I don't think he had any offers until toward the end of his senior season.  But when his knees were finally back to 100% during his senior season he was absolutely amazing while leading Solon to the D-1 state championship game.

IIRC ... Carey was slated for either Akron/Kent as a walk-on as both were after him hard late in the spring, then KD came in w/a scholarship to up the ante. Not sure if Akron/Kent actually had one to give at that point, so the choice was Duquesne, where Carey's foster (??) parents also had some connections. Not sure what turned things sour w/KD, but Carey is not the first starting PG with injury issues (Robotham) to take an early exit.

I think you may be correct in that KD (while still at UA) had offered Carey a walk-on spot but didn’t have a scholly to give.  I think Carey’s history of injuries scared a lot of programs off. KD got a steal in landing Carey at Duquesne so late in the game. Now we’re gonna have to worry about him for two years. He’s an explosive combo guard.

Does anyone know what LePear Toles's status is?? He's listed as a member of the team via their website & I've seen him post pictures and video of him practicing on his socials,  but I don't think I've seen him play in a game - though his whole duration at UA.

medically disqualified and essentially a student coach.
