eh an Oklahoma kid picking Tulsa over us isn't really that discouraging.

I'm well aware that many people would put Akron on a list of most forgettable FBS schools (meaning D1 football & basketball in this case), but Tulsa may be near the top of that list for me.

Had to take a look.  Looks like Akron and Tulsa are very similar programs.  They've won at least 15 games per season for the last 15 years (except this year)  Many times 20+ wins.  Made the tournament twice, lost both.  Had some success in NIT and CBI tournaments.

But the AAC has the benefit of potential multi-bids.  And Tulsa is right next to the kid's home.  He would've been nice to have in 2022, but let's not pretend he's a can't-miss prospect like a Zeke or a Chris Livingston.

Disappointing losing out on him to Tulsa.

Was sifting through some recruiting stuff while on lunch today.  Discovered Adante ended up committing to the Mighty Vaqueros of Rio Grande Valley State.

Not sure what happened, but sure is strange a 4* kid with offers from Akron, Arizona, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Tulsa and handful of others, ends up at a low major that has finished with a record above .500 exactly 4 times in the last 30 years.

Coincidentally, RGVS was also the home of former Zips Coach Dan Hipsher from 2013-2016 where he amassed a less than stellar 27-66 (.290) record.

Many people think UTRGV could be the UTSA of basketball.  (Don't ask for names).  😐

We get to see only the highlights. The assistant coaches usually do most of the leg work. And then the head coach gets involved. Depending on the size of the school and their wallet a coach will fly all over the country between games. They learn exactly what you suggest and more. Have they been on championship teams? Family background. Grades, educational goals, etc. Sometimes they meet these kids in person for a few minutes after a game to get a feel of their personality. Recruiting is to coaching as fund-raising is to politicians. Non-stop.
