I sure am hoping that Gyuwon Chong was not seriously hurt tonight.  His lower leg took a nasty hit when the MSU player deservedly got a yellow.

Chong made a great step in steal/interception and he then made a great unselfish assist to Fitz for the first goal.

speedy recovery wishes for Gyuwon. He is good with the ball at his feet and he is good at finding open space.

I can not say enough good things about Joel Sangwa.  His ball distribution out of the back is outstanding.   He is also everywhere defensively.

Great job by the coaches in recruiting Sangwa and Chong…from unlikely sources….community college in Iowa and Non soccer powerhouse Temple.

#3 Elijah Howe’s fouling of Gyuwon Chong was injurous and cynical.  It should have been a straight red card.  Chong had clearly beaten Defender to goal.  Howe basically jumped on Chong’s ankle with bad intent.  I have countless times seen players ejected for much less.

edit:  Box Score is erroneous.  The offending party deserving a straight red card was #20 Tyler Crawford.  Upon video review, the NCAA should retroactively issue an ejection thereby enforcing the one game suspension.   In no way will such action replace Gyuwon Chong's ankle, but it is the correct thing to do.

Looking at that picture I couldn't help but remember watching this televised MLS game and thinking "what an absolutely awful tackle by Mullan." I had no idea just how awful the consequences would be for our friend Stevie Z.

Did others happen to notice 2023 recruits Caleb Borneo and Jackson Herbert in attendance last night? Great to see our future Zips supporting their future teammates, especially during a win v B1G.

Meister, now that you mentioned it I have two impressions. My first is going to East Lansing to play on a cold day against a Spartan team that featured two Jamaican national players. How the hell they got to Michigan from Jamaica is mind boggling. They had speed and we lost. My second is getting them back at Jackson Field with 3,000 fans lining the field and lots of rain. Our keeper Stein Christiansen was incredible. That was a very heated rivalry. Now we own them and most of the Big Ten.

@72Roo I was thinking a couple of years earlier when they came here in the regular season and we beat them 4-0. That's not the bad part. Then they came here again in the first round of the NCAA and we lost 1-0. They went on to tie for the D1 national title and I can help but wonder what might have happened if we had won that 1st round game.

That was indeed a hell of a team. It served notice that Stu Parry had built the program to compete on a national level.
