They would stand the risk of program erosion in a conference that bad. Remember when Clemson and FSU were good? Someday someone could be saying that about them. The best thing ND could do is join the Big 10. It's a multi bid conference and entrance into the league would improve their recruiting making them more competitive. ND is a good program that can compete in the long term but it cannot do that from a laughable conference.

It will be interesting. It's not a huge jump, but like all things in college athletics, it's a move in the wrong direction. In the past, college sports had JV squads. One thing players on a team have to be conscious about is the staff bringing on younger players to move others out. 100+ players is enough to have a JV team. This JV team could be used as a vehicle for allowing borderline players to prove themselves in game experiences. If a kid isn't providing himself on the JV team through his sophomore season, the coaches can then have a conversation with him about playing football at that school probably isn't the best option for him and he can transfer or stay on scholarship outside of the football program. It may cut down on some transfers, or some players could be close enough to graduation that they retire from football.

Screw ND, spoiled babies. They got what they earned - nothing
-
Correct, if they were in the ACC they would have had a 13th game and almost certainly a spot in the field.
-
No disagreement from me there. We haven't seen the impact of the increase to 105 scholarships yet, but we will soon enough.
-
It's pretty obvious to me that the solution to the college football playoffs wasn't adding teams. It's what you do when it is really all about money combined with being too stupid to come up with better solutions to a problem. The solution is now, and always was, having fewer teams.
-
I hope they use this free time to figure out not being in a conference isn't the best path forward.

And Notre Dame just threw a tantrum and refused any bowl invite.

See in the Spring, sir. We have some really good incoming talent. -

Soccer rules governing possession of the ball, and the fouling of the player who possesses the ball, are analogous to the Basketball rules. Not exactly the same, but pretty close. A foul called in Basketball will probably be a foul in Soccer. Hand to hands, without overt shoving, is often permitted in Soccer. Any foul in Soccer will most definitely be a foul in Basketball. Without question. -

This loss is the bitterest pill of all to swallow. Everything had aligned to set up a once in a lifetime run for the Zips to our second star. We have talent. We play a beautiful brand of soccer that attracts that talent. We had an opponent whom we respected, yet we knew we could beat. The coaches had, over the season, developed a scheme that worked considering we lost 23 goals in Emil last season and 8 starters. What an incredible job they did! The crowds were responding to this team. Then comes the game and we beat ourselves. SLU played hard for 90 minutes, but what they did was insignificant compared to what we did to ourselves. I feel so bad for the players. They like each other and play for each other. They are proud to be Zips. They are excellent students. They are what we want in D1 athletes representing our school no matter what the sport. Next year can't come soon enough! -
So there won't be enough 6-6 to fill the available bowl slots. So they're going to go look at 5-7 teams according to APR. Where do you think Akron stands? 😉

I don’t see referees’ calls in basketball and American football for example as being less subjective. -
I think both Miami and Kent fall under the heading of "how good" are they, as both have very suspect OOC schedules albeit for different reasons. For Miami, they just haven't played any team of Top 150 quality whatsoever. Last year, and most top returners back, is all there is to measure them by. Kent has played several Top 150-type teams (4 teams 161 Kenpom or higher), but all home/neutral. Combine that with their obvious change in playing style (defense to offense) and it's tough to measure them until the next few weeks when they play three straight road games. I mean, how many mid-majors go 9-1 without playing a true road game??? Both teams are probably good ... but "how good" is still TBD.

I'm not a soccer guy and can't say that I understand most of the rules, but one thing about the game that has frustrated me in my limited knowledge is just how many calls by the officials are largely subjective. -
I think about that IU game and the one at Michigan all the time. Those could have been defining moments for the program. Winning programs or programs that are turning the corner from winning to losing win those games, especially when all it requires is something as simple as a 20-ish yard field goal.

That won't happen.

I too was skeptical of Lyles and figured at best he'd be a 10 or 12 minute guy some day and was likely a transfer portal candidate. As for Scott, I always had faith in him as it was obvious Groce had faith in him as he played him more and more at the end of games as his first season wound down. That's always a good measure of Groce's feelings about a player.

WMU 23, THE Miami U. 13. Congrats, Broncos.

My point was this conference sucks. We can win here, it's not impossible even with a lack of funding

Gotcha. -
I agree. I think the talent distribution in the NIL era comes at the expense of my fan experience. I want my experience to be more than watching my team win. I want to get to know the program. Programs aren't things. Programs are people. I'm less interested in who is transferring in and more interested in how programs are developing people. I think the best thing for someone like me is to not increase scholarships, but decrease them. Players will value them more is they know there are not an unlimited number of spots for them to transfer. Players might actually compete harder and not leave because the path to getting on the field is easier somewhere else.

I didn't know VAR was already part of the college game. I've not been able to attend or watch a game in quite some time. My concern about there being several unjust calls that went against us were based on comments I read here and several other second hand accounts from people who I know well and who also know the game well.
