Class of 2026 Offers and Commits
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Devan Christion- 6'9" F - Vegas Where in the world did this come from? Had offers from George Mason and others, but can't find too much on his recruiting. Looks long and smooth. -
I know someone who was in the administration when Tressel came to U of A. The collective expectation was that he was going to be a lazy figurehead easing into retirement. To their surprise and pleasure, he worked very hard and did well in the job. The school could use a guy like that now to help make up for their introvert head coach.

That might be the best defensive half of soccer that the Zips have played this year. I have to give tremendous credit to Thomas O"Rourke. I can't recall a player in the last 10 years...who has improved more than O'Rourke over the course of the season. O'Rourke had several key takeaways and was dynamic on offense. Let's get a goal(or 2 π), Zips

How much if your own money would you be willing to lay on a bet that JT would have reeled in LBJ? Before saying, define "reeling in".

My point about Tressel has to do with 3 THINGS! 1- FUNDRAISING - he would have been an AMAZING fundraiser, even our competition loves him. I will mention LBJ again....I guarantee you Tressel could have reeled him in. You look at some of the Universities that have prospered lately, it is all about fundraising. JMU and High Point are two that come to mind. Those president's have done an amazing job. UA enrollment is 50% of what it used to be. WE HAVE NO IDENTITY except a broke school that is good at soccer. 2- DECISION MAKING - sometimes it is better to stay out of the way. Don't make a bad decision worse. Cut your losses. That is 100% coach Tress. 3- HIRING - bring in homegrown people not people that are looking to use the school as a stepping stone. Most schools in the MAC lose coaches because they are successful and they move to bigger jobs. We actually fire coaches because they are horrible and buy them out. Now we can't afford to feed our players properly. If we had made coach Tress President I bet he would have stayed until he retired. And he wouldn't have retired until he was successful. JoeMo is the best coach we could have hoped for. We have handcuffed him. He is not even playing with a budget or NIL competitive in the MAC. Nick Saban couldn't win here.

I have been to six games over the last two seasons, all home games. Last Tuesday was the first time I saw the Zips lose in person. I thought I was a lucky charm. The Toledo game last year that went into overtime was cold and I did not think the Zips were going to win that one but they pulled that one off. Tuesday night was by far the largest crowd I have seen there. It was fun even though it was cold. Both student sections were into the game, both have them had their brain dead fans with no shirts on and at sat there thinking how can my old fat body be shivering and they are over there with no shirts even in overtime? Then I remembered that they are not old and fat and they are probably two sheets to the wind and they will probably not even remember the game tomorrow. But regardless the atmosphere was fun... That's what rivalry games are supposed to be... I am all about playing whoever they have to play YSU or anyone that they can to build up some rivalries and some hatred and animosity towards. Until the team gets better it probably won't be a Toledo or Miami but maybe some day if Zips can play spoiler. But whoever said Toledo is on a different level right now is absolutely correct. Gleason looks really good. They have a very good foundation there and do a solid job of recruiting. I can't believe i am saying this and hopefully I don't get banned, but don't be surprised if Can't state does a decent job of recruiting. That coach is going to say, we are turning things around look we went at the very worst 4-8, but they are actually still contending to be bowl eligible and they should have beaten Buffalo and they should have/could have beaten Ball State. They are going to get some good recruits. The battle for the Wagon Wheel could and should be very exciting...

I agree. They weren't bad. They were terrible. They gave us six sacks. Negative yardage plays are killers.
