  1. That actually made me laugh. Ive given stats about the game which were shot down. And now facts about recruiting that’s been shot down. I could debunk the “smaller players” statement with size stats that I’m sure would also get shot down. So not going to bother. When facts are ignored, it’s not worth my time to continue the conversation.

  2. Hello Zips Fans! I am back again for my favorite time of year until March with OOC play. This will be a lot more brief due to the fact nobody has played yet and preseason projects are a bit random sometimes. A new era of zips basketball begins now! I will provide more in depth updates around the start of conference play! NET is from last year so i'm using Bart as a fill in Arkansas State Conference: Sun Belt BART: 107 Strong Opponents: Alabama, Little Rock, Indiana State, Memphis, UAB, MAC-SBC matchup II Should be a fun matchup in the MAC-SBC Arkansas State has very high expectations we will see if they meet them! Ohio Wesleyan Division: III Free Space Saint Mary's Conference: WCC BART: 39 Strong Opponents: Gonzaga x 2, Washington State x 2, San Francisco x 2, Nebraska, USC, Utah, Utah State People are mad we don't have a P4 team on the schedule. Saint Mary's is about as close as you can get to a P4 without being one. They are right below Gonzaga in recent years and is expected to finish second in a stacked WCC conference I'm expecting to be a 3-4 bid league with the additions of the PAC-2. This would be a massive win for the Zips or a Strong Loss at minimum. Lamar Conference: Southland BART: 276 Strong Opponents: Texas AM, McNeese State x 2, Louisiana, Texas Tech Omaha Conference: Summit BART: 306 Strong Opponents: Minnesota, UNLV, Iowa State, 2 Big Sky teams Alabama State: Conference: Southwestern BART: 273 Strong Opponents: UNLV, LSU, Cincinnati, Missouri I am not going to sugarcoat it these 3 teams are very rough. But we get 3 homes that will allow Groce to find the best lineups possible for the future and to prep for the 3 day marathon known as the MAC Tournament You never know we might find the next diamond in the rough like with Gardner Webb's decent showing last year. Northern Kentucky Conference: Horizon BART: 156 Strong Opponents: Florida State, Purdue, Cincinnati, Charleston, Horizon League had a crazy year last year so we need to beat them down every chance we get. NKU has a gauntlet in November so they will appear worse than we think heading into our matchup. As we saw last year we cannot take them lightly or else we might need another game winning dunk. Suny Brookport Division: III Free Space 2 Milwaukee Conference Horizon BART: 166 Strong Opponents: Duquesne, UCF Same thing has NKU except Milwaukee has an extremely weak schedule. I will mention this is a neutral site game as well which will add some spice. Yale Conference: Ivy BART: 124 Strong Opponents: Purdue, Minnesota, Vermont, Princeton The smart kids have been hooping. Yale had an amazing tournament and will look to continue their momentum this year. Really excited for this matchup at this Invitational. Jackson State/UTEP TBD Princeton Conference: Ivy BART: 97 Strong Opponent: Rutgers, Duquesne, Saint Joes, Yale Pretty cake schedule for Princeton. I expect them to have a nice record when we travel to face them in December MAC vs SBC Classic Matchup #2 TBD Average BART: 171 Not the best schedule I will admit it. However I think it was made to allow our team to gain chemistry and figure out the best lineups before MAC play without getting steamrolled for paychecks. Very excited for the new year I will be keeping tabs on every team on the list. Please put any updates or thoughts if you want! Thanks for reading!

  3. Any hopes of an at-large bid rest on this game. I'm concerned.

  4. Bump for update. McCoy ranks 3rd in the MAC and 6th nationally in total tackles. Kapongo is 2nd in the MAC and 10th nationally for tackles amongst DTs. Moore is 3rd in the MAC and 26th nationally for tackles amongst DTs. Finley is 2nd in the MAC and 41st nationally in passing yards. Norton is 4th in the MAC and 31st nationally in receiving yards.

  6. The 2022 recruiting class has already produced 6 All-MAC players. More than any other school in the conference from that class. The 2023 class has so far produced Nunnally and soon to be Norton, barring something drastic. That’ll already be 8 All-MAC players from his first two classes that he brought in. Might want to find a different spin on why the team isn’t winning.

  8. Welcome back to a brand new season ZipsNation! We have a special treat for the kickoff of the new year. Mac Vs Sun belt action. 12 games in one day starting from 6-8pm. Every MAC win helps the Zips and the MACs reputation. Hopefully having the away games first will give us an advantage and we can squeeze out 5-6 wins so we can capitalize in February! Go Zips! Go MACtion! And enjoy a great night of fun. (And let me get way too invested in this!) https://getsomemaction.com/news/2024/11/4/hoops-are-here-the-2024-25-mens-basketball-season-tips-off-today-with-mac-sbc-challenge.aspx https://getsomemaction.com/news/2024/11/3/-maction-is-back-2024-25-womens-basketball-season-tips-off-today-with-mac-sbc-challenge.aspx

  9. As @ClevelandZip said up above, it really looks like a nicer version of the JAR. Practically the same layout with more seating behind the hoops. Between all the big companies in the Akron/NE Ohio area, someone could give us a nice chunk of change for the naming rights.

  11. I see it as a scrimmage/warmup to make sure we're firing on all cylinders for the Ohio Wesleyan matchup.

  12. Attention to detail and accountability. Turnovers, busted plays, and pre-snap/post snap penalties are usually a direct result.

  13. You seem to take solace in the fact that they woke up late in the third quarter. They were pathetic during a majority of the game. That's on the coaching staff. It's time to PROVE you're better than a 2-10 team. They've not done that thus far. I see zero fire in this coach. I would have been angry about my team's ineptitude during the first half+. Don't look for silver linings...demand accountability.

  14. And still only one loss in two years of regular season conference play. Man where would the Zips be if they hadn't choked those two away against Temple and IU-Indy? But that's ok, maybe make some folks underestimate them.

  15. It's on DraftKings. Zips +6 at -112. Over/under is 150. Zips +195 on the money line.

  17. It that was true, it would have happened by now. Instead, for 42 years, it's been the JAR.

  20. https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/Roovember2024 I know that many of my fellow UA alumni are angry and frustrated about the actions and lack of action by UA's Board of Trustees over the years. I am too. However, I still love our university, and I believe that our new President will be a positive force for the future of UA. As well, I have a dog in the fight - my son is a current UA student in mechanical engineering. The Roovember campaign allows us to make specific donations to UA’s schools, departments and projects that directly support current and future UA students, including UA Athletics. This year I chose to support UA's Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Engineering & Polymer Science. Thank you

  22. Exactly. GP1 is non stop opinions but then this week stated that this was the first game that he’d actually watched start to finish. At some point you realize that some people just love to bitch

  23. Getting the players is the job of the coach. By now, Akron should have better players across the offensive line and they don't. Buffalo had better talent across their defensive line. I couldn't wait to see improved Akron defense everyone talked about. What I saw was a defence lacking in talent get pushed around the field and out worked. Some of their guys were physically impressive in a way Akron's aren't. Where is Chase Blackburn, Hixon, Getsy, Biggs, Frye, Dwight Smith, Andy Alleman, etc.? I could go on all day about it. Even the no name players aren't as good today as in the past. Good grief, am I the only person who sees this? Akron reminds me of a slightly worse version of 2024 Wake Forest in the ACC. I've seen Wake teams go to the ACC Championship and 3-4 win Wake teams. The coach is the same and perfect for their program. The talent is the difference. I saw them play Mississippi and Clemson this year and lost to both teams by around 35 points. I've seen Wake beat both of these teams in the past when Wake has better talent and they had less. If the opponents wanted to beat them by 60 they could have easily run up the score because the talent disparity was so extreme. They also barely beat UConn and Stanford, who are both historically bad programs and the base talent between the teams was similar. They lost to Louisiana, a G5 team, and will miss out on a bowl because of it. Wake's talent level has dropped in the past two years in a way that coaching can't make up for. Talent is everything in college football. It's why recruiting is so emphasized. My biggest criticism of Joe has always been not bringing in his guy as a QB. By doing so he would have had someone others might want to take a chance on Akron and play with. Joe's recruiting is bad. Arth's recruiting was bad. Bowen's recruiting was lazy. I Coach was a buffoon and brought in bad players. Players want to win. Akron needs to organize it's program in a way that prioritizes easy wins then build the recruiting from there. Playing three P4 teams isn't prioritizing winning. Akron is losing on purpose.

  28. No, it's an institution of Higher Learning, not a Business. And treating educational institutions as if they are businesses is what has led to their decline. I mean, we can equate athletics to this. The amount of debt accepted by the U to expand athletics when you couldn't ever actually be competitive in it (football) is one of the biggest blunders in the history of the University. But it's fine, we'll just continually cut the people who do the real work of the University (educating students) and balancing the budgets on their backs, so administrators can make absurd salaries padding their resumes so they can move onto something more lucrative somewhere else and fund their yachts. It's sick, and the fact that you can even attempt to defend it is sick.
