It’s Guthrie’s job to fill Infocision seats and increase revenue. I don’t see the creativity or effort.

    Here's the football Promotional Schedule:

    • Sept. 14 vs. Colgate – Home Opener, Band Day, High School Day, Extra Yard for Teachers and Faculty & Staff Appreciation.

    • Oct. 5 vs. Bowling Green – Homecoming, Family Weekend & Varsity "A" Athletics Hall of Fame.

    • Oct. 26 vs. Eastern Michigan – Youth Sports Day & Health Care Workers Appreciation

    • Nov. 2 vs. Buffalo – Senior Day & Salute to Service

    • Nov. 26 vs. Toledo – Group Bounce Back Day

No effort. No creativity. Just mailing it in.

The excuse is money. When the new scoreboard was announced Guthrie did not know athletics would have its budget cut by $3M. Many people criticize him w/o knowing what he is dealing with. Akron has many challenges, yet in the face of those I feel he is doing the best job an AD could. Just my opinion.

The budget being cut shouldn't have any impact on something privately-funded like this.

It is on one show in particular that is a youtube show.

I'm not sure what show you're referring to. When I think "Northeast Ohio Media" I think of TV/print/online. ABJ, PD, WKYC, WEWS, and others have all been giving Freeman fantastic exposure throughout his draft process.

It's because Northeast Ohio media will spend hours talking about whether or not the Cavs should draft Bronny but won't even spend 10 seconds mentioning that a local kid is a draft prospect and could be drafted.

That's why I believe AkronAlumnus wants Freeman drafted before Bronny, but at this point, I just want to see Enrique get drafted. I'm not even worried about the situation right now.

Except this is not at all true.

Oh bc Bronny is a terrible player and would never get drafted if he didn't ride his daddies coattails. Why do you think Bronny should possibly go ahead of Freeman? The guy averaged an abysmal 4.8 ppg in college. Freeman is light years better

LeBron hating has to be exhausting.

Freeman is better than a lot of these players going before him, IMO. Not sure why anyone would focus on any one in particular. All I care about is Enrique getting picked and getting an opportunity.

I could not remember who was on that team and looked up the roster.  Lots of talent but unfortunately lots of problems.  Four members of the team did not finish their careers in Akron or finish their careers, Harney, Tree, Abreu, and Forsyth.

Pat Forsythe didn't? Pretty sure he played 1 year at WVU and 4 at UA.

I know this is a tall ask, but if anyone knows off hand where I can find a full game video from the 2012-2013 Zips season I would appreciate it. My initial search on the inter-webs came up empty. The fact that they were ranked nationally at one point is impressive.

Also, been thinking about that 2020 team today obviously. Of Groce's teams thus far they were the group that had the most swagger. Not sure if it was a chip on their shoulder for not being recruited (Cheese, Banks and Reece were junior college transfers) or what, but those core guys were up for any challenge. Maybe that's why I think they had a special run in them.

I think this is one...some random videos from that account!

Enrique was a true 5 yr player. Ali probably could've received a medical red shirt during his year at Butler. At least I think that's right.

IMO aside from the 20 team the one that leaves me with lots of "What if's" is the 22/23 team.

Add Ali back to that mix as a 3rd option with X at point and you've got the makings of a top 25 team.

    2012-13, easily.

If Diggs doesn't get himself suspended in the offseason and Abreu doesn't do the same in March, I have no doubt that team wins a tournament game.

Despite losing two significant contributors, they still went 26-7 and won the MAC Championship in a blowout despite having a week to prepare to play without Abreu. Then they get the nightmare matchup against VCU and half the team was sick to top it off.

To me, they were no-doubt the greatest "what if" Zips team. That group was built to be special.

I think when you evaluate Groce. How can you not be happy. He has found a way to make it to the NCAA tournament 2 out of 3 years. Since joining the MAC Akron has made it 5 times. That is 5 in 32 year we are in the good times!

The core of Ali Ali and Freeman was unstoppable. Sure you would have wished to capitalize on those 2 elite players and win a tournament game. But I’m just glad to have my team get called on selection Sunday. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-American_Conference_men's_basketball_tournament#Tournament_champions

I haven't seen anyone say they aren't happy. We can appreciate the success we've had while also analyzing good and bad decisions that have been made.

  10. Posting this here as to not hijack the Freeman thread:

I think when evaluating Groce, you have to kind of separate coaching vs recruiting. I don't have many complaints on coaching. I do think there there have been some misses in recruiting. These are all certainly debatable.
