Bryan Tribble.🤔

Even our assigned Zips beat reporter doesn't know the difference between Bryan Trimble our starting shooting guard and Greg Tribble our backup point guard who is competing to take over for LCJ.  Sigh...

Nice to hear of that Zips-OSU game "rumor" more than a week after the game was officially announced. 🙄

I was just happy he didn't call him Gavin, spell his last name without an "e" or call him a shooting guard.

According to this site the Zips are playing in the Gulf Coast Showcase this Thanksgiving. Can anybody confirm or is this leftover from last year?  The dates are 2021?

The Zips will be in this tournament.

Better book your flights now if you plan on going.  Last game is the day before Thanksgiving.  Getting tickets for late evening of the day before Thanksgiving and the morning of Thanksgiving are filling up fast and are not cheap.

Per this link, the participants include...

Mon.–Wed., Nov. 22–24: Estero, Fla. (The D1 Docket)

Akron (MAC)

Appalachian State (Sun Belt)

Delaware (CAA)

Evansville (MVC)

Fordham (A 10)

Oakland (Horizon)

Rice (C-USA)

Vermont (AE)

I don't mind it. Evansville has made noise in the notorious MVC. Fordham brings in the A10, with Rice bringing in the CUSA. Vermont is a perennial NCAA Tournament team.

Here is a resource to see if anything else comes up.

I like the Zips chances in this event, in part, because ..........................................

The only noise coming out of Evansville lately is groaning from their fans. Their overall record in the last three seasons has been:

2020-21: 9-16 including a signature loss to Prairie View,

2019-20: 9-23 including 0-18 in conference, and

2018-19: 11-21.

Fordham is the doormat of the A10 with 11 conference wins over the last 4 seasons.

Rice is no powerhouse; over the last 3 seasons they have lost 6 more games than they have won.

Vermont has enjoyed some success in the America East Conference which was rated the 22nd best conference in the country at the end of last season by Jeff Sagarin.

Yeah...this is the kind of tournament that the previous coaching staff would've caught hell on here for booking.   A very mediocre group of teams.

That being said...

Back in the day, we wanted wins over Power 5 because we "thought" it would get us that at-large bid.  Well, that never happened.  So I think this is an excellent tournament that will allow Groce and crew to evaluate where the team is with Mid Majors.  I won't be going to Florida for this, but I will be in the JAR for the big game in November against Malone or Coppin State.

Just because the tournament isn't strong doesn't mean we won't be challenged outside of it. We are at least playing OSU...

Well, it would've helped had we actually won more of those games (Nevada... VCU... Oklahoma St.... etc.).

I think this is they type of tourney Groce and the team need at this point. There were a lot of moving parts in the offseason, including the expected departure of LCJ. The same thing happened before last year, and the team never had the chance to really figure themselves out early on. This is their opportunity to do that this season.
