  1. Graduate back for a sixth year: Oft-injured Allen is healed up and eager to win Allen staying healthy is a huge key towards the season being successful. He has the potential to be great.
  2. ABJ article on the Psychology archives. It's kind of a big deal. What impressed me is that it got done without UA spending a single penny. Completely paid for through donations and grants.
  3. New offer: TE/DE Andrew Bennett
  4. Maybe that's why they're coming to Akron in the numbers they are. At least they get to watch a game between two FBS teams.
  5. Well, they added 4 freshmen. Giorgio Bowers, Keith Sconiers, ShelDon Miller, and Jamar Williams. Possibly not coincidentally, those are the four true freshmen most likely to see playing time this season.
  6. They don't make money directly. They do, however spread around the name of your school, bring in donations, and increase enrollment. The effects can't be measured directly.
  7. If you mean that Syracuse beats "the Zips by 14", then I agree with you.
  8. I think last year spoiled us. That year was something never seen before in NCAA history, how dominant we were. You can't expect that every year. But it doesn't matter as long as we are the ones holding the trophy in Santa Barbara. I do wonder if the humidity and heat got to the team. It's also good for the coach to see how they respond after losing a game, in front of a hostile crowd.
  9. http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20100...d-changes-at-MU Miami is not one of the schools I expected to be on the "move down" side of the MAC. I always thought their pride in their tradition would be enough to carry them through and make moving down an unthinkable proposition. Akron is quickly being isolated in the MAC as a school with a desire to improve athletics. Still, I think if the MAC dropped some weight then things would look better for the schools that stayed.
  10. A much more in-depth article than the one I linked above. Opening this to the public in a nice, easily-accessible, dedicated building instead of being a little archive in a corner of an old academic building is a very good thing for the university and the city.
  11. http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/dayton...ron-800893.html The new psychology archives will have some historically significant artifacts on display. Very creepy artifacts, if you know the history behind them.
  12. Are you sure? USF seems to be playing the Akron Spartans, according to their announcer.
  13. Do you really think it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to update the web page? No, but it might be their responsibility to create a current roster to give to th athletic department so that they can update the web page.
  14. I didn't know he had left. Damn! He was great for the program. He is still listed as Akron's coach, but here is the confirmation: http://wakeforestsports.cstv.com/sports/w-.../082710aab.html I do expect that some out of successful coaches but we are also lucky to have some pretty loyal guys in Dambrot, Mitchell and Porter. You forgot a girl named Coach Kest. Didn't forget her, just waiting to see what the success/loyalty factor is with her. She basically had one good year, if she has another does she stick around? Why don't you ask Mack Rhodes down in Houston?
  15. I was lookinf up some info on USF for the game tomorrow, and came across the news that they're building a new soccer stadium as well. Not that they need it. Ah, the luxury of being BCS and building new athletic facilities every decade just because you can. I like ours better, especially after we complete the next phase. They do get credit for a unique design, though. http://thebullspen.com/index.php?topic=73472.0
  16. USF blogger gives out orders to fans to go to the game.
  17. How can they call themselves "South Florida" if they're in Tampa? That's like Columbus trying to claim that they're in "southern" Ohio. Tomorrow's forcast there is 91 and humid with storms. I hope they can get the game in. A good way to prepare for the ehat down there is to play in the field house with the heat turned up. It gets pretty stuffy in there.
  18. The Akron Men's Soccer team is taking its talents to South Beach to take on the USF Bulls on Saturday, August 28th. Live stats should show up on the USF athletic website near game time.
  19. And how will we know who all the new freshmen are, or whether any have not made it?
  20. I wish him the best of luck (except when MU plays us, of course).
  21. Women release their schedule. The men's schedule can't be too far behind.
  22. Akron secured $6 million for the Corrosion Engineering program. I really do hope they get this off the ground. They can take the "rust" out of the "rust belt". Akron would the at the center of a renewal of the entire region.
  23. The Rowdies were just doing their jobs. We were very nice to Yoram and Josh before the game, and gave coach Giffard a great round of applause when he came over to greet us. But once the game begins, they are the enemy. They knew better than anyone else on any opposing team in the country what they were in for when they scheduled a game against us. In fact, I can imagine they would be disappointed if we didn't do anything. This is an exhibition game, and Gif got to see how his players responded in front of what will be the toughest crowd they'll see all season against the toughest team they'll see. If there was ever a time for their team to lose composure, that game would have brought it out. We were helping them.
  24. That may be the biggest factor of any turnaround we might see. Last year we were outmuscled by teams like Indiana and Temple. They were just better conditioned, stronger, tougher. You could argue that we had just as much natural talent as either team, but we were physically pushed around easily.
  25. Tearing down and paving (or gravelling) for parking FOR NOW would be great. At some point (within the next 2-3 years), develop it with the RIGHT kind of establishment. It would be a great spot for another tailgate lot. It would also be a great spot for a basketball arena, assuming we can acquire the surrounding properties as well.
