  1. I wanted to drop by one more time to let you know that I had a great time at the game on Sat.We arrived late, made the mistake of going to the campus and looking for the stadium. By the way your campus is pretty cool, i imagine it is a beating gettin up those hills when everything is frozen, but is a pretty neat campus. Arrived just before kick off so we missed any tailgating. I can see your love hate relationship with the Rubber Bowl.It is way out of the way, and parking kind of felt like going to the county fair, and even thought there is only one way in and one way out, traffic flowed quite well. The fact that most cant really park up against the stadium affects tailgating. But once inside I was amazed at how close to the action you are. Our seats were great, and we were so close to the field that I felt like I was at an intramural football game, standing on the sidelines. Quite different from our stadium.Your band was great, they and all the other HS bands looked like they were having a blast. You dont get that sort of free flowing constant music down here. While the Green Brigade is technically outstanding, they are not allowed to fill empty space with random beats and music. Your band really ads to the atmosphere. We were treated very well by your fans, a few fun taunts here and there, but as a whole we were welcomed.I think there was a lot of curiosity about us strangers from Texas, many folks were coming up to us to ask us questions about the University, famous alums, etc. Now on to the game.I must say I was shocked by the speed of the team. I kept thinking that We are from Texas, and our athletes are superior to anything in Ohio. Call it Texas arrogance, man was I wrong. Your overall team speed is really impressive.Your QB is really really good. Your big monster TE is a bonifide bad ass. I also want to say that your coach showed a lot of class by taking the foot off the gas in the 2nd half.I would like to think that it was our D finally stepping up and the NT coaches making halftime adjustments, but I noticed a run first offence in the 2nd half. I can see your frustration, you have a great team and good in game presentation, it is a shame that the word isnt getting out. I dont know about your past history, but I suspect it is similar to ours (like I said before, in a lot of ways we seem to mirror each other). Keep winning and the fans will come.I will be pulling for y'all.I will stop by from time to time.I think we may have y'all in Denton next year. And finally, the Girls in Akron are much hotter than the girls in Cleveland. In fact Akron as a whole is a pretty kick ass town.I will make the trip again if we ever get to play up there again.Go Mean Green
  2. From College Football News.North Texas (1-2) at Akron (1-2) 6:00 pm EST Saturday, Sept. 23Why to watch: What was originally seen as a possible clash of top conference contenders now is just a battle to turn seasons around. Akron couldn't capitalize on the momentum from the win at NC State losing 24-21 to Central Michigan to kick off the MAC season. With road trips to Can't State and Cincinnati ahead, the Zips could use a convincing home win to get some of its MAC champion swagger back. North Texas pulled off a shocker against SMU winning 24-6 only to clunk last week in a 28-3 loss to Tulsa. A win over Akron would be a huge confidence boost going into Sun Belt play next week against Middle Tennessee. Why North Texas might win: The Zip lines have been awful so far. The offensive line can't protect QB Luke Getsy, and the defensive line is doing nothing to get to the quarterback. The defensive front will get into the backfield and make plays, but it likely won't generate too uch pressure on the Mean Green quarterbacks. Why Akron might win: The North Texas offense has been worse than the stats have made it out to be scoring just three touchdowns in three games. While the Mean Green hasn't been able to score too much on teams like SMU and Tulsa, Akron's defense, ranked first among MAC teams, has been effective against teams like Penn State and NC State. Don't expect UNT to throw for more than 150 yards meaning it has to be Jamario Thomas or bust running the ball. That could be a problem against a strong Akron run defense.Who to watch: North Texas is playing around with its quarterback situation to try to generate some production. Woody Wilson has been the most productive option completing 17 of 21 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown, and he even ran for 74 yards in the win over SMU. Even so, junior Daniel Meager, who has more experience after starting last year is still in the mix even though he didn't do much in his time against Tulsa last week. Wilson is the main man, but he might get a quick hook if Akron gets up big early. What will happen: Akron will get up by ten early and coast the rest of the way. The defense will take care of the UNT offense without much trouble.CFN Prediction: Akron 28 ... North Texas 10 ... Line: Akron -17.5

  4. Unless you like scrub grass and mesquites, that IS the beautiful scenery of North Texas...
  5. I am looking forward to meeting you guys. What is the local brew most of y'all drink on game day?And are there any regional foods I should try out?To be honest this is the farthest north I will ever have gone. So I am really just an ignorant Texan when it comes to your part of the world.I think we have y'all down here next year, and I hope many of you make the trip. You will certainly enjoy our BBQ, TexMex, hospitality and our beautiful North Texas scenery...
  6. Thanks,I cant believe the university put the Family section right next to the visitors section.Although we (NT Fans) are generally a very easy going, jovial bunch, many that visit our stadium are jackasses, and I wouldn't want my kiddo hearing the things they say...or the sort of horrible things that come from my mouth when I get my hackles up.Oh and if you think your staduim sucks, have a look at the tin can. The old architecture is ok, but the distance from the stands to the field is just awful.See y'all on Sat.Go Mean Green!Fouts Field
  7. Not sure how many are coming with me, could be anywhere from 3 - 6.So I dont really want to buy tix till game day.My question is if I buy a cheap general admin ticket will I be able to sit with the other hand full of NT fans, or do you guys have those ticket police that enforce where you must sit, ie if I buy an endzone ticket will I be able to sneak over to where my green bretheren are.Thanks.GMG
  8. From what I read from NT Athletics, we are having our tailgate in a lot off George Washington. Is that near where most of you will be? Is there basically one big lot for the entire stadium?I was planning on bringing up some cold lonestar and shiner for you, but not sure what the new air travel rules are.GMG
  9. ThanksIt refers to my home town Fort Worth, among our many nicknames...Where the West Begins, Panther City, Cowtown, Better than Dallas...etc.I am feeling better about NT now that I have had a few days to digest the Tulsa beating.A quick run down of our team.If the O line can wake up and block, Jamario (#20) can really really run.Quinn (#81) is very fast, runs great routes and has amazing hands. Possibly the best WR in NT history...but he needs someone to get him the ball. Our QB situation is a 3 headded monster, the coach has not figured out who the starter for the season is...mostly because the O line has been suspect and D's seem to be camping out in our backfield. It is tough to evaluate a QB when he is always on his back. The D is young, quick and nasty and they have been playing really well...but the O has had problems moving the chains so the D seems to reamin on the field the entire game. Special teams are pretty good.In a perfect world our coach likes to grind out games, run run run, then pass. Burn up the clock and let our fresh, athletic D cause some havoc. Break the will of the opponent in the 4th Q when as the offensive pounding wears down the opponents D. Get the game over in about 2 1/2 hours. It worked great during our 4 year run of conf. titles, but it doesnt seem to work so good when the O line is like swiss cheese. Looking forward to the game.More on Fort Worth here
  10. Well, who knows which UNT team will show up. The one that had creative playcalling against SMU or the one who laid an egg against Tulsa. When I first saw the Tulsa line (around 17) I thought it would be easy money for us, and if it wasnt for a fumbled snap, recovered by tulsa at the nt 8, we might have pushed, but I really didn't think Tulsa would shut us down like they did. I think Dickey (coach) saw SMU as a must win so he pulled out all the stops. Tulsa...not sure. Y'all may be in for a big day of us punching it up the middle into the teeth of your D.If you want to see some real misery, take a visit to our chat room.www.gomeangreen.comI am still headding up there with a few other folks, and am hoping for a good game. Go Mean Green
  11. Great win for you guys. The Mean Green put a stompin on SMU. Tulsa and y'all will be the toughest games we have the rest of the year.Hopefully we will play Tulsa close and be able to come up there and give you a good game.I will be back next week.Go Mean Green
  12. After poking around your board it appears that we are very similar with our concerns and complaints about the programs. Fan Apathy, Need a Stadium, Where is our merchandice in the big stores, Need better/any public promotion...Our season will hinge on week 2 against SMU. North Texas fans really cant stand SMU. SMU is seen as elitist, pretty boys, living on daddy's dollar, and many of them love to live the sterio type. NT is a working class school, most of the 30k plus students have to work part time through school. We are a crazy hodgpodge of West Texas red necks, crazy ass music majors from all over the world, and business/engineering/education students from the DFW metroplex.A loss to SMU would really put a dark clowd over the program.A win will put the confidence back in the program that we had in 2000 - 2004.I'll bring the margaritas, Lone Star and Shiner Bock if y'all provide the grub.Go Mean Green
  13. Thanks,I'll be back the week of the game for parking/tailgating info.Drop by gomeangreen.com sometime.See y'all in September.
  14. A few of us Texans are coming up for the NT game.I am looking for some advice on tickets. Are game day tickets tough to come by?Or sould we buy them in advance.Looking forward to the game.
