  1. First, Torrence did play last year and ended up with the flu and then injured. His other behavior? What being accused of something he didn't do? I love people that take the facts, throw them out the door, and make their own reality. Ridiculous, you didn't have anything to say about him until he left. Exactly thank you G-mann its funny that some people all of a sudden know Devoe on a personal level, or know the situation he was involved in. FACT #1 Devoe has only been involved in one off the field issue. FACT #2 He wasnt accused by himself there were a group of around 15-20 massillon football players that were accused of being involved in a groupie type sex ring with underage girls. FACT #3 The case went to the grad Jury where the females or accusers later admitted to fabricating the story because they wanted attention, FACT #4 All of the players were acquitted of all charges. The only thing this kid is guilty of is getting mixed up in that situation in the first place, he took responsibility for that went to court the girl lied he was found innocent so what are they other problems your talking about ??? DeVoe Torrence acquitted of statutory rape charges From the Canton Repository; A Massillon teen has been acquitted of a rape charge involving a 15-year-old girl. Stark County Family Court Judge David E. Stucki said he didn't find enough evidence to convict DeVoe J. Torrence, a one-time Ohio State University football recruit, of the juvenile charge. Torrence testified today and denied a sexual encounter took place. The girl initially testified that she didn't remember what happened between her and Torrence after she went to his bedroom in the early morning hours of Sept. 23. But she later said the two had sex and detailed their condom use for the court. On cross examination by defense attorney Jeffrey Haupt, the girl admitted it all was a lie and that the sex never happened. Torrence, now 18, was charged with rape because the girl was 15 at the time. The trial was held juvenile court because Torrence was 17 at the time. Jim Tressel withdrew this kid's scholarship a few months back, and it was speculated that these charges were the primary reason.
  2. Well that's your view on how you feel about the situation, but I'm sorry to break it to you these are adults for the most part 20-22 year old sophmores and Juniors. They should be treated that way and for you to say that it doesn't matter what these young mean think or feel because they are young is unreal and not fair, young men or not they are still young adults if society and the university views them as adults and expects them to make adult choices then what they have to say is relevant to the situation. Torrence,Wackerly,Williams,Bice,Houser, Shuford and 2 other walkons I can't think of their names right now but all gone within a few weeks with more players contemplating, and talking to some of the upperclassmen they state there is no respect from the coaches on a personal level granted not many of the players have earned respect when it comes to the field but respect in general man to man is needed especially in college. You have to respect your players and they have to respect their coaches if coaches don't give respect they won't get it therefore the players won't play hard and from what I'm hearing from different people is there isn't any respect yet. Wackerly was basically told he had no chance to play and that his only duty at Akron would be scout team QB to tell any hard working player that is just asking for them to leave. And from what Scout.com is reporting Devoe torrence has been in contacted by Michigan State and Illinois as soon as they were informed of him asking for his athletic release, he's a great player things just didn't work out at akron he was IMO the best Tailback we had but just like many other players he wasn't put into a position to succeed coaches couldn't set in stone who the starter was. I'm not bad talking these coaches I support them 100% but I will stand up for the players also Go Zips Let's be clear here. What you and I define as being "disrespected" may be an entirely different thing than what is happening in the gym and the fieldhouse right now with these players. Let's also be clear about the fact that this was a terrible team last year, and these players did not earn any collective respect. If they want respect, and that includes from the fans, how about winning some games? You mentioned Wackerly. He was a walk-on for crying out loud and I like it that he was not considered other than a scout team player by this staff. They can do better. We can do better. Let's see where Wackerly ends up. I'll bet a paycheck that it is a much smaller program where he might actually be able to play. How is that bad for him, or bad for the team? Again I say to any pampered UA college athlete (and yes they are still kids, whether you like to think of them that way or not) get with the new program or get out. You want respect from this staff? Earn it by working your ass off. Yeah i can see that we do have a different view on the respect factor, your trying to justify being disrespectful by saying these players haven't earned it on the field. Athletically no these players haven't earned the respect from coaches or fans for that matter, but as individuals and young men they deserve respect from their staff just like the players are expected to give respect to their coaches. What you are trying to justify is basically saying because we didn't have a good season last year on the field we apparently don't deserve respect off of the field. Regardless of what you say these are men they are looked upon that way in society and by our University so there is no double standard there, and they should be treated that way because no matter who the players this staff could trash every player on the team per say bring in a whole new recruiting but if there is no general respect these players will not play hard proven fact. And if we want to get really specific our new head coach hasn't proven anything either other than he can recruit well because lets be honest Notre Dame hasn't been too good the last few years and Charlie Wise was under investigation a while back for mistreating players and those players responded so well by winning for him right?? not so much and i have a very very good look on the inside id say i have a pretty good idea of whats going on lol. And to say Just because Jared Wackerly was a walk-on that he didn't deserve the opportunity to compete, were you at practice everyday to see Jwack play? no but i was as was everyone else ask a player what he thinks about jareds ability they will all tell you the kid can play and could hold his own against 1st team defense, being a walk on doesn't mean you should have the chance to compete. I'm sorry you must have the misconception that we are all of a sudden Ohio State or Cincinnati when it comes to recruiting because we have coach I, well im sorry to break it to you but nothings changed and nothing is going to for a very long time no big time recruits are going to come here unless unforeseeable problems cause them to ex. Eric Howard. Go look at our signed recruiting Class on scout.com all 2-Star recruits Wackerly was a 3-Star and For his career, had 3,713 passing yards and 42 touchdowns at Division 1 North Canton Hoover. so if you want to play the im better because im on scholarship lets look at the rankings and stats compared to other QB recruits we are bring in this year i rest my case, but your entitled to your opinion. Torrence had 42 division 1 offers and was ranked 64th in ESPN top 150 4-Star recruit by scout.com & Committed to The Ohio State University and set to join his older brother whos a starter at Ohio State devoe transferred to Massillon from Canton South high School his Sr. year, He then got into legal trouble him and about 20 other Massillon fball players were accused of taking part in a high school sex ring causing Ohio State and many other schools to pull their offers, the case went all the way to grand jury before the girls admitted they lied to get attention, by that time all the schools tried to jump back into the picture but Devoe decided to stick with Akron because they stayed with him through the rough times they showed him good faith he decided to show them some. So this kid has been through a lot to get to where hes at now and i wish him nothing but the best he worked hard in practice everyday and on multiple occasions he asked to play safety or rover if it would help the team, hes more of a spread type running back the pro style offense wasn't a good fit for him but i wish nothing but the best for him in his future. Remember Torrence and Wackerly are not the only players we lost recently just the most recent i wish all the rest who have decided to go in different directions the best of luck in their future!

  4. He had 26pts lastnight against kansas after starting the game 0-8
  5. Two-time Ohio Mr. Football, Erick Howard, signed a letter of intent to play college football at Akron, but he is not qualified, and a trip to prep school could be in his future. What would that mean to him eventually playing for the Zips? Bill Greene spoke to Howard at the Logan's Sporting Goods autograph signing, to get the latest below is the conversation. Erick Howard, two-time Ohio Mr. Football, signed a letter of intent to play his college football with Akron, following one of the most acclaimed careers in state history. Howard rushed for over 6,000 yards, and scored 79 touchdowns in his storied career, and because he is not qualified academically, Akron might not be his next stop. "The new coach, Rob Ianello, is an amazing coach, and he's legit, in my mind," Howard said of Akron. "The players have totally bought into Coach Ianello, and things are in the process of changing for the better. I knew what went on last year, and there's no comparison with what is going on at Akron right now." "He's all about winning, not just getting a free education, and having fun," he stated. "Coach Ianello has been training 25 years for this opportunity, and he's going to succeed. I'm excited to be part of his first class, if that works out." Because he is not yet academically qualified, there is still a possibility of Howard enrolling at a prep school, then going through the recruiting process all over again. "I am not qualified, but it's close, and if things ended today, I believe I would be alright," he explained. "Even if I do qualify, I might still go to prep school, but I'm not sure yet. If I don't qualify, I'm still looking at the same two options, Akron or prep school." Howard was given a set of guidelines by Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel, and had he achieved them, he indicated he was promised a scholarship by the Buckeyes. "They want me to go to prep school, and try to get eligible for Ohio State," Howard declared. "Coach Tressel talked to me about Carlos Hyde and Jamel Turner, and he had me speak to both guys about their experiences at Fork Union. That just might be what I end up doing, but it's probably 50-50, what I'll do." "I know Carlos Hyde only spent three months at Fork Union, and he's at Ohio State right now," he said. "Both guys said their experiences at Fork Union prepared them for college, from an academic standpoint. It also helps make you a man, because of their rules." He does have a time frame in mind for making his decision, and it might not be something that happens soon. "I don't have to decide soon, and I can wait until the end of the school year," Howard stated. "It's important to me that Coach Tressel and Coach (Jim) Bollman are on my side in this. They both said I've picked a great school in Akron, but if things don't work out, then they want me to go the prep school route. Ohio State has been I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT I DONT WANT HIM IF YOU ARENT COMMITTED TO OUR PROGRAM DONT COME, IF YOU HAD A DECISION TO MAKE YOU SHOULDNT HAVE SIGNED!
