  1. http://ucsbgauchos.yuku.com/sreply/24088/t...he-weekend.html Zips fans, there were an equal number of Akron Rowdies and UC-Santa Barbara Gaucho Locos behind Akron's bench during the game. Someone apparently brought Rowdies T-shirts for the Locos -- I didn't realize how many of them there were (at least 30, nearly all plastered!) until well into the second half, when I noticed they all had yellow shirts under their Rowdies shirts. The Locos carried out their traditon of throwing tortillas on the field after goals by their favored teams -- Louisville in game 1 and Akron for the final. I gotta go to the store -- somehow I think cooking or toasting the tortillas would make them sail better. At about the 25 minute mark of the second half, the Rowdies (ours, that is) moved behind the Meechigan goalkeeper. The two sectons, started a "Z-I P-S" chant across the field a few times. All in all, I would say the Rowdies fairly held their own. I think it was the Locos who were largely responsible for the NCAA rep coming up midway through the first half and asking that we "restrain the rhetoric". I think maybe something about how when the UM keeper hit his place kick each time they would yell, "YOU SUCK", and then something about "Once a doosh bag, always a doosh bag", etc. etc. I imagine that that Gauchoyoungin will be reading this -- if he and his minions regain consciousness today, and can provide their perspective on events. Now, I gotta find out where the Final party is taking place tonight. If anyone here or in Akron finds out, please post it here! LOL, there was a rep from the NCAA that came up to talk to the Rowdies b/c some of the newer Locos started a Bulls*it cheer after a horrible call by the ref. THey were set straight and all was well. Very impressed with the group of Rowdies that came out. Easy to bond when you have fan bases very similar who support college soccer very passionately. The Locos picked up on the Rowdies cheers and went with it while they also implemented Zips/Akron into our own cheers. It was a great time and Sunday should be a blast. As for the goal kick thing, our cheer is very different and long compared to the Rowdies one. The Rowdies so "You Suck" while the Locos do something similar to that but then go on a string of "douche bags". Tried to blend them together last night. Anyways, time to go do The Loop (pub crawl) with a bunch of your fans.
  2. Gaucho Loco here. Congrats on making the Cup (again). Of course part of me wishes we played you in Akron and knocked you off so we would have a home college cup, but we won't get into that. Congrats again and thanks for beating Berkeley. Just wanted to throw some answers and comments your way, especially for those coming. First off, if you are truly passionate about your team, do all in your power to find the funds to go. I regret to this day not making the trip to St. Louis in 06. A couple hundred dollars was a lot to me back then especially being a poor college student, but I later realized how fast one can make that back. Keep in mind that Christmas is right around the corner I know some are upset that the Cup is in Cali, but how do you think we felt for many years when the Cup was Midwest/East??? It has been a goal since 05 to get the Cup out to SB and we are very stoked to have it. Everything comes together from the weather, the scenery, and the facility. Those that make the trip won't be disappointed and those watching from home will hate the fact that they don't see 30 degree weather, rain, or snow. Many Locos are planning on giving their support to Akron as has been mentioned. A few factors are the fact that you knocked out Berkeley and that you're a mid-major like us. Throw in you haven't won a Championship and all that jazz and you have some fans. There has been mentioning of buying beer for the Locos and that is always welcomed. The more drunk we are, the better chance we have of being Zips for a day/weekend. Other than all of that feel free to reach out to anyone here or on the Loco board. We will help make your trip to SB memorable that's for sure. We also decided to create a Supporters Summit so feel free to check it out and join on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/ev...681&index=1
  3. Hello all. Thought I'd make an appearance on this board. I can tell you one thing, the more alcohol provided to the Locos, the louder they get in support of your team. The Locos actually set up a little Supporters Summit so these would be places to meet up with Locos and get them said beer. Keep in mind though, we are known for drinking and when I was out in Columbus for the USA/Mex WC Qualifier I put some people to shame So the more beer the merrier Supporters Summit: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/ev...681&index=1
