Guest Zips Zoo
Here are the recruits for the 2005-2006 season as far as I know. Jimmy Conyers 6'5" SF/SG (Southern MD Christian Academy - White Plains, MD) Terry Eagle 6"4" SG (Fitch HS - Youngstown, OH) Nate Linhart 6'6" SF (Lincoln HS - Gahanna, OH) John Rybak 6'5" SF (Hale HS - West Allis, WI) Projected 2005-2006 Roster Seniors - Darryl Peterson SF Rob Preston PF/C Matt Futch PF/C Juniors - Dru Joyce III PG Jermiah Wood PF Romeo Travis SF Sophomores - Cedrick Middleton SG/PG Quade Milum SF Bubba Walther SG Nick Dials PG Nick Goddard SG I did read the Beacon Journal article on Marcus Butler from Evansville. Butler stole from someone in the dorms right? I never know who is on the roster anymore. Looks like Butler won't be on till spring of 2006. Who knows how many more walk-ons will come to Akron. Seems like Akron liked Tarver even though he got in trouble with the law a little and being forced to leave St. V's. Look at his stats and he only made 2nd team All-MAC. He didn't pass that much and if she shot the ball differently and off the correct foot, he might have been considered more by NBA scouts. This Butler guy appeared out of nowhere and no source has yet to talk about his stats.
Guest Zips Supporter
So no big men next year for the class? We all know Keith Dambrot has an excellent tradition in recruiting, I mean him and Hipsher are like night and day right. Keith Dambrot was 69-10 and won 2 state championships in his three years at St. V's. He knows what he is doing and we have all waited for years for him to be promoted. The last three years or so, we have not recruited someone over 6'7". The Zips rotation in the post has not been productive much lately and that's because of Dambrot's system of aggressive defense and uptempo offense. It should be no shock to a Zips fan as to why they are undefeated at home. They always have quick starts to their home games and take care of the tempo in their direction. It's great to have young kids near here looking up to the players. There have been sections with kids who chant "Bubba" and "Romeo" and then they even stick around after the game to try to get autographs. This is great, even LeBron showed up for the Ball State game because he cares about his guys. It still makes me upset that Jeremiah Wood is absent, I still can't believe that he got injured. At least this isn't Cleveland where once a player gets real good or a good player comes to Cleveland they get injured.
Guest Zips Supporter
Joe Jakubick averaged 30 points a game in his career. He was drafted 7th pick in the 7th round of the 1984 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers I think. He never practiced with them once. He was a prolific scorer as we all know. Akron is playing like a team now, everyone has had their solid game this year almost, and there is a different player stepping up in games this year. I just want to see a game where Romeo Travis has a triple double or Matt Futch, Rob Preston, and Dru Joyce to have double doubles this year. Also the Zips shoot the ball very well especially with 14 or 15 3's against Central Michigan. No shocker that Dru Joyce is shooting 42% and leads the team. He was 5'2" his freshmen year at St. V's and could shoot the three well. The real shocker to me is the amount of Zips fans in the city of Akron, we really have loyal fans, especially basketball. And Dambrot should stay here because he has reminded his players what it feels like to win. That's something Kelly Kennedy needs to do with the women so they can have more fans. The less than 100 fans that showed for the Eastern Michigan game was embarrasing. Hope to see everyone at the Can't State game.
