Couple loses appeal in lawsuit against UA over property By Phil TrexlerBeacon Journal staff writer POSTED: 12:04 p.m. EDT, Sep 25, 2008 A Can't couple acting as their own attorneys have lost their appeal in a lawsuit against the University of Akron over the sale of rooming houses on Spicer Street. Don and Patrice Mangan sued in the 9th District Court of Appeals over the $315,350 they received from the University of Akron for the homes at 338 and 346 Spicer St. The couple claimed UA attorneys ''strong armed'' them into signing a purchase agreement because of their lack of legal counsel and duress over the process. The couple also wanted the appeals court to throw out the agreement despite missing a filing deadline. In a 3-0 decision this week, the appellate court denied the appeal finding no evidence of strong arming and no excuse for missing a deadline. The university acquired the properties for the appraised amount following eminent domain hearings in Summit County Probate Court in March. UA sought the property to make way for a multiplex stadium and residence hall southeast of campus.
I thought those properties were already demolished. Either way, it's good to see another loose end tied up in this whole eminent domain mess.

Those properties were demolished. But, they appealed anyway with the lame excuses and that's why they lost on appeal.
