ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I know that this is an eminently arguable point, but after watching the running game today, if DeVoe appears to be the real deal there is NO reason to play games with redshirting him. We need him to be on the field if he's the best back they have. Kennedy just did not impress me today, and without the three-headed monster the Zips had at their disposal before last week the running attack looks, well, terrible. Anyone have any inside scoop on just how good DeVoe looks in practice compared with their other current options?I say WHIP IT, WHIP IT GOOD. GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZipper Quote
ZachTheZip Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I'm with you, for the most part. I'm sick of seeing our WRs get line up at tailback only to look lost out there and get tackled for losses. The only scenario that could possibly justify keeping this guy benched would be if Andrew Johnson is guaranteed to return next week. Even then, we're still down Alex Allen. Tuzze is a good guy and gets yards when needed, but his play style is more of a blocking fullback than a consistent runner. Quote

However, if he is out they have to play Devoe. Quote
skip-zip Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Guys, keep in mind that our offensive line really got pushed today. I was surprised. I felt that was really a strength of the team. I don't want to jump the gun and think that this was a running back problem if that really wasn't the case. I heard something I was not aware of in the postgame report. If I heard correctly, Tuzze actually trimmed down a bit during the off season to prepare him to be a RB this year, and not a FB. He had some great runs during the Cincinnati game, and had a good run today. Maybe he needs a few more carries. I agree...if Torrence is the best we have right now, put him in. But, I think we would have seen that already if that's the way the coaches feel about him. I'd hate to see us burn his redshirt year just to see him get a few carries a game behind Kennedy and Johnson. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 I also thought it was odd that Tuzze didn't get another carry after having a couple of pretty nice gains prior to what I think was Jacq's 1st (and worst) INT. Quote
