BGSU fans

ksu sucks

I was reading www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com, and I figured after winning the game, the BG fans would just breathe a sign of relief, maybe bash their coach a bit like usual, and move on to miami.No. Instead they constantly rip on the RB for how much of a piece it is(I didn't realize this was news..). And then they start criticizing our fans calling us "the most obnoxious d-bags in the conference" and stating that:"Everything about today's game seemed second-rate and low-rent from a visitor to Akron point of view. From Light up signs being powered by open car batteries, to an announcer on the field urging on the fans, to the schitty pyrotechnics in the pregame show. I didn't think it was possible for a school to have a worse PA system than the venus of BG but Akron pulls it off."I could brush that crap off, the RB is old, and it's beyond the point of return, and that is WHY the info is being put up. But just ripping the RB wasn't enough. Some guy found it important to then talk down on the INFO:"If they run it(the INFO) anything like they do the rubber bowl, it will go from class of the M.A.C. to a toilet in two years." Now I ask, who are "the most obnoxious d-bags in the conference?"

I look at it this way. People all around the MAC know without a doubt that the new stadium... coupled with the field house and the whole Lanscape for Learning re-make of the campus... is putting Akron light years ahead of the rest of the conference when it comes to facilities. If I were a BUGS fan, I'd be a little jealous, too. And it would be tempting to cast a few stones while the casting was still good.Reality is about to come smashing down on their pathetically bitter little heads, though. B)

I said this to my friends yesterday, and I'll say it again...That was an EXCELLENT atmosphere yesterday. Great weather, a good live band, lots of activities (the fan activity area up front was unbelievable), halftime fireworks show, etc. In 30 years of going to football games at the Rubber Bowl, I have never had that much fun. I've been to BG, and they can't put together a game atmosphere anything close to that. If they came here and did not have a great time, I feel sorry for them. Wow...genius of the BG fans....cut on the Rubber Bowl...a 70 year old stadium that is being replaced. Wow..what a big secret...the RB is old. If BG fans think we are obnoxious, they obviously have not had much experience with the idiots down the road from us.

It's all good...just consider the source. They have to rag on our facilities to feel better about their own. They're the ones who have to compare what we'll be playing in next year against what they play in. We'll find out who has the recruiting advantage in that regard going forward. Our move up to 1-A 20 years ago should have been accompanied by some major facilities upgrades to make us more competitive but we didn't have the budget back then. That should have included overhauls of the RB press box, locker rooms, restrooms and lighting. But if we had done all that then we probably wouldn't be getting a new stadium on campus for quite a while longer. So the facility lean years are now behind us and the future looks bright whereas BG's successes are coming a lot harder than they used to.

They must have been at a different game than I was at. I thought the atmosphere was great and even though we lost it was a great night for football. First time I've seen a homecoming with this good a turnout and it shows me that the fans are out there. I'm kind of surprised with the hating BG fans. I always thought they were the better fans of this conference when you consider Miami, OU, and Can't fans. I'm guessing that they know that they have a generic high schoolish stadium in Doyt so they have to pick on a facility that is two games away from being retired. Do they really think that we have the money to throw at a crumbling RB when we are trying to pay for a $65 million facility? To say we are obnoxious when they want to take pot shots at an older facility? Lame The MAC can have their laughs now. Also, how about that new 35 million high school gym they are building to replace anderson? They won't know what to say the day that Akron announces a new arena. Sorry BG, you're not going to keep up with the Jones. But congrats on a hard fought win that our coaching staff presented to you.

Classless d-bag fans? How about the group of BG fans that found it necessary after the game to stand in the middle of walkway of the vistor side exits and chit chat, choking off half of the exitway and backing up fans that wanted to get out of the stadium? How about when those fans were asked politely by a number of fans to please move out of the isle way so that people could get through they responded with profanities and threats?

Personally, I can do without the guy on the field with the mic. It's OK for halftime, but not during the game.In addition, it would be nice if the pinhead in the press box could wait until the band is done playing and leaves the field before blaring the music on the scoreboard speakers. What's with all the music lately? Let the bands play. Don't drown them out. During the game too.Let's not turn this into an NBA game.geesh

i love willie, and whenever he gets on the mic i get goosebumps. he's got the right voice for it. the thing is all 4th quarter bgsu fans were way louder than us which may or may not have helped their rally. i also loved how willie called out everybody who was already heading out the door even before the game was over.

I have never seen someone who is able to get so many people fired up. How can you NOT like this guy?!?! He got the atmosphere at the JAR really fired up last year and he had the fans more excited before the game last night than I've ever seen. If this guy is a student, UofA should give him a job after he's out of school. Did you see how much the BG fans want to have someone like him???As for the people bashing the RB and the atmosphere, don't let it get to you. There is one, or two at every school. I do have to say that I believe there is some truth to the fact that the other MAC schools know what is happening in Akron and are developing a facilities envy. I drove by ICS after the game last night and I have to say that is going to be one, damn impressive stadium when it is done. Already it's towering over Exchange street, and there is going to be a GREAT pregame atmosphere! Most of the stadiums are set out away from campus. With ICS in the middle of the city, it's size is very impressive!!! I even showed everyone where our tailgating spot is going to be!!!

I agree that on the field is over the top. Send him into the locker room at halftime. From what I've seen to date, it couldn't hurt. ;)

When Will gets on that microphone and basketball and football games and does that, i get pretty rowdy. But when I have been drinking heavily for hours before hand AND he does that...I GET BELLIGERENT, go nuts, and scream every play. And I'm not the only one. I would say there are very few people that dont enjoy his rallying.

Somewhere along the line, it has been inferred that these comments were directed at Will. They are not.He was very impressive. I just don't like that going on during the game.Imagine if you were at a visiting stadium and they did that. I just think it doesn't have class.Halftime...fine. But if you want him to cheer lead during the game, give him a bullhorn and put him down with the cheerleaders...not on the stadium sound system.IMHOAs a communicator, he was very effective.

I could care less what other fans from visiting schools think. Willy, now after seeing him, IMO, is a tremendous asset. Him getting on the field at the end of the game was outstanding. The fans were never louder during the game then when he was urging them on. The players loved it, I loved it, everyone around me loved it, I saw an intensity and passion spewing from fans that has long been obsolete do to this ridiculous 'class' thing that keeps getting brought up. I mean Dammit - Were Zips and I don't care what any Falcon, Rocket, Redhawk or stupid Flush thinks of me, they can go to hell.Willy created an electrifying experience, something that has been lacking with Akron Athletics for years. We as fans are constantly looking at the negatives. It has to stop. Support the product we are given, get people to the games, cheer loud and proud for your team and then Willy wouldn't have to get on the damn field to remind us where we are and what we are supposed to be doing.I have never been to an Akron game that felt that electric, people standing and cheering until the bitter end and I have one person to thank for that, Willy, whoever the hell you are, thanks, your presence reminded me of what being passionate about a team means. Keep doing what you're doing.

For Basketball games he is great. For football, it doesn't work so well. I agree with Zip81And getting the crowd pumped up on offense at the end is counterproductive. Cheer on defense, quiet on offense.
I love Willie. I have had the chance to meet him a few times at soccer games and the viewing parties over OBC. I believe he is a grad student here at UA, but don't quote me on that.I don't mind him that much as far as during the game goes. Yes, cheering on offense seems counterproductive, but why cheer on only your defense? When your offense is in need of inspiration (and an act of God), cheer them on! make sure they know you support them to. The RB, or UA fans in general, don't make the place THAT loud, so its not like the line wouldnt be able to hear the snap count.
