BioInnovation Institute of Akron

From the JournalIt would appear that the University will get at least one new building out of this immediately.Official website of the InstituteThis is really big for the community and another big project from our great President. Proenza has done amazing things and should be honored and hailed as the greatest president the school has ever had.

just another example of why The University of Akron is the only reason the city isn't a complete crime poluted slum
100% Agree. Without this University and the amazing President we have in Proenza, this city wouldn't be much to talk of. Even though Akron has its flaws, its obviously starting to turn for the better.

Holy Sardines, Batman! Do we have room for another poly-sci building?
We already have two beautiful poly-sci buildings: The iconic blue glass one with the rock candy statue, and the more practical one near train tracks and the bread factory. Plus countless research labs. We have plenty of room for a new one. There's all sorts of older buildings on the north end of campus that could be torn down.

for reference, the blue glass one is the Goodyear Polymer Center... just to let you know  For those who havent been on campus and aren't in the loop, they tore down old Carrol Hall last year and it was replaced with green space. Supposedly Memorial Hall is next, however, I have heard that they are going to replace it with a new building. Not sure what it would be, but if they are in fact doing that, then theres a good chance that new building could be a new polymer building. It definitely would fit in with all the new architecture in the area

My understanding is that Memorial Hall would be replaced by a new College of Education building. Since the Science, Engineering and Nursing building are on the west side of campus it would be interesting to see where another polymer science building would go. There has been talk of acquiring the land where Wonder sits, but I thought I had heard International Baking didn't have to file bankruptcy as anticipated. My dream is to see something with architectural signifigance built and for us to expand into the vacant areas north of Market and south of Perkins/MLK.Like Here.

What about the lots on Market (used to be Mr. Hero and another bldg)? That would put it across the street from the new orthopaedic bldg at City and not too far from the other poly-sci and bio-eng bldgs.
I'm all for expanding the campus to Market Street. Right now, our main "window" to the city is along Exchange street. All anybody sees there is an ugly Shrank Hall and the athletic fields (and soon the stadium). It would help to have another major entrance that is visible to lots of people along Market. Since the campus is closed off, few people get to see just how much it has changed except from what the get a glance at from their car windows. We're limited in the places we can put up a beautiful new building that the public will actually get a chance to see, due to barriers like the train tracks and Route 8.
