Guest HoopsManiac Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Yes, they won 3 of 4 in a stretch for the only 3 wins on the season, granted they were all 3 MAC wins; but the truth of the matter is they are still 3-19. A horrible record for third year coach Kelly Kennedy. This is the 1st posting on the women's team since 1/30/05, why, because the team is so bad and so awful to watch that no one cares. It would be different if they were actually utilizing the talent that they have. A pretty solid starting 5 and a few kids off the bench that in all reality are very capable of having a strong season. So why are they 3-19.....................leadership, chemistry, and knowledge come from the top. I'm sick of seeing, listening, and reading about how bad this program is. Improvement.....not really, will they get to go and play at the Gund this year in the MAC tournament...maybe but that is still not improvement. A goal met, absolutely and a positive one at that. But ultimately this team in the past two seasons, because c'mon there is no way you can count season number one, curtosity of Roxanne Allen's termendous recruiting....has done next to nothing in terms of wins and losses. Do they play hard? Yes. Is that improvement? On a small level. If you want your athletics teams to help make a bigger and better name for the University then the basketball programs, both men and women, have to step up and help you do that. The women aren't holding up their end of the bargain. New facilities and positive and public backing from the administration can only go so far. It's been a tough task for Coach Kennedy and she brings some very positive experiences and attributes to the program.....she's just not the right person for the job. Quote
zipper Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I wouldn't be too quick to throw in the towel on Coach Kennedy. You mention the former coach's (Allen) recruiting. Well, those kids are now seniors - in fact, I bet there are five or six scholarships open for next year, right?, and it will be interesting to see if there is talent coming in. There are a couple of very promising young kids currently in the lineup - they have to be given a couple of years to develop. There's a reason why coaches want five year contracts, and walking into this situation is one of them. I'm not suggesting no changes should be made. But to me making good adjustments from quarter to quarter, game to game, and season to season is part of being a very good coach. The verdict on Coach Kennedy's ability and willingness to make change is up for grabs right now. But I need a couple more years' worth of recruits, development, and experience under her belt before I pronounce her not the right coach for the job. Quote
Guest Crackhead Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 There is not ONE of the Akron starting FIVE that would be a starter on another MAC team. The point guard is a transfer from Can't State - if she was any good do you think Can't State would have let her come to Akron? Quote
