With all due respect ..... or all the respect this post is due. Just forget using the words "Zips" and "Bowl Chances" in the same sentence. IMO even if the Zips had beaten Ohio and Temple and stood at 7-5 they would not have made any Bowls. :nono: :nono:

A few years ago, we nearly got in with 6 wins. In fact, we were the only bowl eligible team that got left out. According to your research, that will not be the case this year.

If our team ends up going to a bowl this year, I'm sorry, but that means there is something very wrong about the whole system.

Scott...I'll tell you what's wrong. Too many bowl games. Does the majority of the country really care if a couple of 6-6 teams, or 7-5 teams are playing in a bowl that nobody has ever heard of?However I do love that they have a rule that you can't go with a losing record. That prevents the BCS conferences from ensuring that all of their members get to some kind of bowl game.

I have to rate this as "most pathetic thread of 2008 on ZN". I don't know ANYONE in Zips land concerned about bowl eligibility anymore.BUT -- for the sake of my local U (and most recent alma mater) let me correct you: Hawaii has won six games, and must win one of their final two (meaning 2-10 Wazzou on Saturday) to get to their token Hawai'i Bowl spot. Quite a comedown after the Sugar Bowl on New Years, but MAC fans may be interested, as WMU may be a potential fill-in for the Pac-10 sixth-place team that isn't eligible to bowl.

Thankfully the last game in the Rubber Bowl was meaningful. Imagine if we had Temple at home to close it out this Friday. Scary. Go support the soccer team. They are national title contenders and play a very respectable (yet nameless) big time school/program in a rivalry that we dominate with a home game in the NCAA Tournament. Excitement at any D-I school doesn't get any bigger than that.

Whether or not we'd get in over a 6-6 Sun belt team is quite questionable. It would depend upon the individual bowl game and its location. If the game is in Shreveport, Louisiana they may be more apt to take a Sun belt team like La-Lafayette or Arkansas State due to geography and ability of fans to travel.The hopes are quite grim right now. The Zips needed to win one of those close games (Cincy, BGSU, Buffalo, Ohio) and just didn't quite get there

as bummed as i am and as much as i just feel like "who cares", HOW CAN YOU NOT BE EXCITED FOR A CHANCE TO GO TO ANY BOWL!?!?1?! Regardless of how watered down the system is, it's still a chance to play another game and get OVER .500 going into the new stadium. Isn't that what most of you would have taken at the start of the year? Let's just beat temple, get that bowl game and beat whatever sorry team we get to play. It will be a party to go to and an awesome time all around im sure.I want to go to a bowl!

A bowl game for Akron provides plenty of benefits that you don't really think about. The biggest one being a couple of extra weeks of practice, which would hopefully help the team improve a bit more heading into next season.It's highly unlikely that Akron would get invited to a bowl, but if you want to go over the scenarios, the MAC boards have hundreds of posts detailing just about every possible scenario you can imagine.
