johnnyzip84
He was likely headed out anyway, but one has to wonder if Andy Hildreth's heads-up play was the final nail in the coffin. So that's two down (Genyk, Amstutz), and how many more to go? Montgomery? Martin? Anyone else? This could wind up being a busy off season in the MAC. Gill, Jones, Cubit, and Hoke may get to leave on their own conditions.ESPN Link
ZachTheZip
Montgomery and Martin likely will get fired. Gill, Jones, Cubit, and Hoke will probably get hires somewhere else, since so many other teams from other conferences are firing their coaches this season. The MAC could see up to 8 new head coaches next year! JD needs to stay after this season, if only because it will be impossible to find a new coach with all these other openings.
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
I'm ambivalent about whether it's better to have continuity in coaching, or whether it's better to shake things up. In MAC football, neither is a great option it seems! Continuity likely means extreme mediocrity, while striking gold in a head coach and system means he'll be gone before you know it. Is it better to have JD for several years and hang arounf .500, or is it better to bring in the next Turner Gil, have a great spurt, only to see him bolt a year or two later and have to start over again? In MAC football, we're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't.GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZipper
ZachTheZip
In order to have sustained success, you need to have stability. Going out and getting a coach that will be gone in a few years might mean a good run in the present, but it also means that the school will go back to being crap as soon as the coach leaves (see Buffalo). And if you go out and get a new coach and it turns out that he sucks, then you set the whole program back by a number of years. I am hoping that every single coach and coordinator returns for next year, just to see what can be done when you don't have to spend time and resources trying to fill positions and can focus on improving the team and recruiting.
