Did he operate so much under the radar at the beginning of the season that other teams have finally caught on or has our passing to him under the basket just gotten worse or nonexistent? He also used to be a rebounding machine and I used to comment to my buddy every game about his vertical and hands. Right after Wood got hurt he became Superman for us. Now I just don't see it. zipsfan38 Posted March 3, 2005 Report Share Posted March 3, 2005 Just reposting from the other day: think when it comes to rebounding more teams are focusing on Romeo so don't give him to hard of a time on the rebounds. On Saturday we were just never in position and when we were we just were not aggressive enough. I am tired of seeing Futch go up for a rebound with one arm. The dude is huge and needs to get tough on the block. True basketball basics two hands to catch the ball . . . we are not on the black top. Romeo has a great turn around jump shot. On Saturday he kept going to his left, I would love to seem him use a quick step to his right and go around the defender. After watching the TIVO of the game I thought he could of had some easy shots. can not wait to play Can't at the Gund. Love the way the Zips are playing . . .surpassed all of my expectations. KingZip Posted March 3, 2005 Report Share Posted March 3, 2005 I think that the play of our guards has been the missing link against Can't State and Buffalo. Joyce has not been passing well around the edges of the defense and has been slow to penetrate on the bounce. His assists are down, but that is also due to the big guys blolwing a lot of bunny layups. Akron is only as good as it's guard play and right now they are playing like a B team. Buffalo has the best guard in the MAC in Turner Battle and it will take one of the best games of Joyce's career to help lead Akron to a win in that "hellhole of a barn they call a gym" < Hoosier's quote. I'm hoping several of you can shoot down this observation down. Feel free. Agreed. Romeo looks a little tired and has lost some spring. Hopefully he gets his energy levels back as more is on the line Saturday and at tourney time. I think he will be there as he seems to have risen to the occasion and draws energy for big games in the past. Nonetheless, a big win Saturday and some rest for Thursday/Tourney would be really good for this team. I have flopped my opinion here as Ipreviously thought a tourney vistory in the 1st round would be good for the program and momentum. Rest and preparation would be better. Another poster mentioned that teams may be playing Rome different under the glass and focusing on him limiting RBs. I think this is true, no more flying under the radar. If so, that leaves the opportunity for someone to step it up. Futch ? The time is now (does anyone know a hypnotist ? Futch.....you are a rebounding machine.......rebounding machine.......no more fouling......you will play 25 minutes a game......get 7-10 rebounds...using two hands to secure the ball.....using your body for position.....staying in the paint.......you are a rebounding machine......) Good, I think that will work. During this rebounding drought, Futch has had alot of foul trouble and mins limited, so there's some hope (plus he's a rebounding machine now). I also think Mcfadden, Peterson. and Prestons activity levels will increase going forward and help in the rebounding area. After all, it's win or wait till next year time.
