Can see this UA-UB thing develops into a rivalry with both teams returning most of their roster for the next couple years. Hope UB gets a post-season bid. Hope UB gets a post-season bid.IF we do it will be the CBI and I dont think we should drop 60K to host a game... Losing to BG we might have gotten the NIT but I dont think either the NIT or the NCAA will be taking two teams from the MAC... Do us proud.. johnnyzip84
Thanks for the support, BIE. I have a healthy respect for what U@B has been doing all across the athletic department of late. The clean, competitive rivalry that has developed between our schools is good for both of us. We sure hope to score at least one for the MAC this coming week. I really think Buffalo is at a tipping point in terms of athletics and their programs will continue to improve across the board.I think one of the biggest differences last night was that Akron has been there before. We had two years of experience in the title game heading into this game, and it showed. Hopefully Witherspoon and his players will be able to draw something from the experience. We're all rooting for you guys to make it into a post-season tournament, where I think you'll fare pretty well. Zipsrifle
I can't say enough about Buffalo's fans. You guys were great. I think late in the game you were down by 14 and had just started your run. I was amazed as you guys were screaming like you were down by 2! I was also very impressed with how well you traveled....great support for UB! It seems to me there are too many pretentious fans in the MAC...at least to Akron. The Buffalo fans don't fit that mold. I like the way the competiton between our schools is heating up! Very classy post!
Dave in Green
Buffalo's team and fans are first class. Reggie Witherspoon is growing their basketball program into a consistent contender in a similar positive way to how KD is doing it. It's programs like this that will bring the MAC back up from this relatively weak basketball conference season, and give Akron good reason not to think about leaving the MAC looking for greener pastures. Maybe having Gill in football is unfair to him as he runs a clean somewhat competitive program but the loss to you guys can be put solely on him. We were so badly out coached and rather than change the game plan he kept changing personnel.Personally I think you guys are the team to beat in the mac for the next couple of years. Between the fact you return about everybody, you're recruiting gold (#9 center! nice), and you have more big game experience than any mac team its going to be real hard for UB to knock you off your perch in the next three years. Reggie has three years left on his contract so we will see what he can do. Good luck in the tourney, drawing the #12 team in the nation is going to be a big challenge.. I live in the real mid west (west of the Mississippi and east of the Rockies) so my contact with fans of the MAC is limited to the web but Ohio, Miami, CMU, WMU, BGU and Akron all seem to have a healthy balance between team pride and sportsmanship. I have never found a good forum for Can't, NIU, EMU, or Toledo. And Ball State fans (bsufans) are just a bunch of homer crybabies...
Dave in Green
Zips fans can identify with the frustrations of Bulls fans. You don't have to dig too far back into this forum to find criticisms of Keith Dambrot's coaching, i.e. which players to play, not adjusting fast enough to changes in the game, not being able to win the Big Ones, etc., etc. For a lot of fans, criticizing coaches is right up there with criticizing refs. Being a sports fan is all about emotion, whereas measuring the quality of a coach should be totally objective.
