lance99
After reading some of the post, I was wondering how to get national exposure. If Nebraska has their radio network, why not us? mabye if its small(i.e i have "fear the roo on my facebook page). It's worth a shot as being "Americas underdog", or as my roommate askes me one time: "what the hell is a zip"?
zen
an underground cultural phenomenon can be created by very few people.I think I could do it.I've done it before. You touched on it a little bit, but it would be something more like, making a slightly quickfire fad about what is a zip, or a somewhat odd internet game involving the roo.I haven't even tried because I know what happens when something catches fire. Actually, several things happen. One of them is that everyone remotely connected tries to latch on, or claims it was their idea. The other is that the body which is referenced starts claiming intellectual property rights, and thinks that someone is making lots of money out of the craze to they gets an injunction to stop it even though it's publicity beyond their wildest dreams. It's not worth the hassle. Games dosen't work because people thinks that it is a "game" and not a mascot.what i mean is:most people who uses internet has yahoo messenger, myspace or facebook. Get your friends wondering. Follow the underdog. Buy something Zips related. Get radio/TV air time and talk about the Zips. People cannot follow if they don't know

Here we are in Akron...we want the sporting world to know us...what Akron icon (other than LeBron) is seen at sporting events all over the country? The Blimp! Why not have our logo pasted on the side of the blimp? Stadiums full of sports fans, and millions more on TV, would see it. Than, when we win a few games, it will stick in peoples minds. Just a thought.

Just a thought. The blimp is a good idea. Everyone knows it. They must at least have some ideas on the matter. Maybe (and I hope that this is not the case) they are leaving it up to us to promote(on my radio show i always sign off with"always and remember, fear the roo). I have no issues with that, but it's word of mouth.
ZachTheZip
Gaining national exposure will always be up to the fans. We need to not only be excited about the Zips, but we need to show that in every way possible. No amount of marketing can match a bunch of excited fans letting everyone know how excited they are. Excitement is contagious. Commercials are not.Remember when we all decided to start commenting on Zips stories at Ohio.com? Look how much our coverage has improved since then. They saw that people cared about the Zips, and reacted accordingly. I think we can do the same thing on a much larger scale. Comment on ESPN stories, create a presence on our opponents' message boards with some friendly smack or even just useful information for the opposing fans who are less informed about us. Brag about our stadium to Indiana's fans. Any time you think something on a website like ESPN or Foxsports.com or Scout or other high-traffic websites relates to the Zips, don't hesitate to speak up and post something. It's grassroots, and if done properly it can pull other Zips fans out of the woodwork and maybe create some new ones in the process. But we have to be loud, be relentless, and show the world that we exist and that we care about the Zips.I just left a comment on ESPN's conversation for the Akron-PSU game leaving a little information for the primarily PSU fans that are doing what I just described. Same with our Foxsports home page. I occasionally put something on our empty Scout site. It's lonely out there, beyond the confines of Zipsnation. I come here to converse with knowledged Zips fans in a civilized and educated manner. We've debated everything under the sun about our school and its sports here, but there's a whole world out there who has no idea about us or that the Zips have any fans whatsoever.
