ZachTheZip
We sometimes talk about getting people to come to campus and see just how it has changed, and howe nice it has become. Usually the discussion revolves around the stadium.Well, today UA's campus has tens of thousands of people wandering around and most of them have never set foot here before. The AA is holding their founders day celebration on UA's campus. Since it was founded in Akron, this is the biggest such gathering in the country. While I haven't heard too many compliments on the campus, I haven't heard a single insult or complaint about how it looks, as used to be common when visitors came to the old grey campus.Thing like this are huge instruments for getting people around the country to come here and see what is going on. It's also a nice recruiting tool since the visitors often bring their families with them. Next year will be even bigger, since it's apparently going to be the 75th anniversary. By then, we would be able to house them in the stadium all at once for a massive meeting, which would be cool to see.Thing like this are great for the school and the city. It's a major influx of tourists for Akron this weekend.
ZippyRulz
The bar owners must be beside themselves seeing that huge AA crowd...But yeah, good for Akron. Campus is now a great place for all kinds of events: RoadRunner marathon route & show, BE/MAC track, college wrestling champ's, area HS academic competitions, HS football, band shows(?), community/political town hall meetings, King James camp, research conferences, First Night Akron, Soap Box Derby socials, etc. I think we're already seeing the dividends of the campus upgrades. ZachTheZip
One thing I thought was awesome was that I got a good glimpse of how tailgating could be on campus. People were set up all over the grassy areas with grills, volleyball nets, and all that stuff.
MaxZIP
Having just graduated in December, the campus is still very familiar. I went to Can't for 2 years and finished at Akron. The major difference between Can't and Akron lies in the feeling of having a campus that is open late with activity persisting well into the night. Akron's campus tends to shutdown around 6 when all of the stores and eateries close. Can't has people up all night with 24 hour activities, stores, and restaurants. Basically the number of people living on campus makes it seem more inviting. That being said I loved Akron’s campus and bar scene. They are very different universities but could learn from each other. Akron needs to keep playing to their strengths of being a modern urban campus with new traditions forged each year. MaxZIP
They need to develop the north side of campus to market with some interesting stuff. When is Central Hower going to close for good. Akron was supposed to have closed it only to see it become something else and remain a money pit.

Market by City Hopspital and their plans include mixed-use (residential/commercial) buildings that replace some of the older buildings along there. With UA's purchase of the properties on Market I could see some of that eventually being medical research buildings with their proximity to City Hospital. There is some events in the area already (Art in the Park at Grace Park, concerts at the churches) and they are close to some of the restaurants (Crave, Chophouse). MaxZIP
One big issue with that side is the haven of rest. The haven and ZLB have the campus surrounded with drug-out crazies.

akronad
Don't count to getting the Central-Hower Building for at least another 7-8 yrs. It is currently being used as a swing school for other schools that are being rebuilt.
