w00t Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Apologies if this warrants removal for not being relevant enough to Zips soccer, but this is a pretty big loss for Wake (ranked #3 in the CSN poll before this news) and pretty big news for the American college soccer ranks as a whole.Arnoux signs deal with Everton Quote
ZachTheZip Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Akron soccer being a top team warrants discussion of other top teams and out standing relative to them. This is a tough blow for Wake and it will have implications on the national stage. Quote
zip37 Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Is that a greater loss than what we suffered when Steve left? Quote
w00t Posted July 23, 2009 Author Report Posted July 23, 2009 Is that a greater loss than what we suffered when Steve left? Probably not, in and of itself... but Wake also lost six other starters (all of which were selected in the MLS draft) and didn't bring in as good of a recruiting haul as UA. Too bad we don't play them this year or we'd know for sure. Quote

Too bad we don't play them this year or we'd know for sure. It'll be more and more difficult for UA to get ACC teams on the sked for other than warm-ups or Spring games. Bonus points to anyone who can guess why. Cody is (I presume) the brother of USMNT (Gold Cup at east, though he will never be more than a deep sub) midfielder Davy Arnoux, who plays well for MLS KC Wizards. Here's another question we'll have to ask (not this year fortunately): Who will be the first of Caleb's kids to make the trip abroad? And who will follow? Quote

Z.I.P. Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Hey Zippers,Here's a fairly unrelated subject (didn't feel like starting another new topic). I've been watching the US U-17 World Cup roster to see if any of our newcomers would be away in Nigeria midway through the upcoming season. Never found any. Now I did find one -- not with the U-17s but with the U-20 team which plays its World Cup in Egypt late next month. Zarek Valentin, the rookie from Lancaster PA, and (I think) FC Delco, is in the U-20 player pool. I'll have to dig further to see if he's been getting any playing time with the team this year. This is a good thing. He gets great experience internationally, while he prepares to fit into an incredibly tight competition for Akron's back line.http://www.ussoccer.com/common/stContent.j...2009U20MNT.html Quote
skip-zip Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 Hey...of course this topic is relevant. ANY news that improves Akron's chances, in the only relevant team sport where we truly have a chance to win a National Title in the near future, is worth reporting.I'm not much of a soccer fan. In fact, the only soccer games I've attended in recent year are Akron soccer games. But I still believe that a National soccer title would do a lot for us in term of our national publicity as a university. Much more than I think it would have when we almost won the title in the mid-80s. Quote
bigsix0 Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 It's possible that Davy and Cody are brothers, but Davy spells his last name Arnaud, so it seems unlikely. Quote
