Aaron
That's impressive! Did Can't finally shut down their sorry excuse of a band and give the instruments to people who actually know how to use them? Is the band on campus this week, or is their camp next week? ZachTheZip
Awesome! Hopefully this sparks some feelings of pride within the band, and also with the fans who watch them.

UA Fan
Was there a private donation? Or an allocation from the UA budget?I can only assume each sousaphone goes for a couple thousand dollars. Those will look great on the field, whether gold or silver.I guess there was no band forum to file this under, huh?

Well I guess we do practice on the same field as the soccer team...I might be way off the mark but I would guess a private donation. That is a heck of a lot of money to shell out all at once. Did some research - cheap fiberglass sousaphones can go for over $3000 each, not including cases and such. Student level mellophones run at least $900 each, and baritones around at least $1000. These are very bottom estimates unless they got some kind of discount for buying so many. That's around $70,000 for the horns, plus drums, drum harnesses, drum cases and maybe stands. I would assume if they're getting them all, they probably are getting at least middle of the road instruments and the more expensive metal sousaphones so you're definately looking well into six digits. If you're interested at all a good place to start is here - http://www.music123.com/Sousaphones-Brass-...ts.Music123?o=
UAbandfan
I can't speak of the other instruments, but the band got Yamaha brass sousaphones. Unless they got a deal for buying in bulk, they cost between $5600 -$6400 each. Some serious money spent! Can't wait to see them gleaming on the field! tbozeglav
great news! is this already the direct result of the new stadium influencing alumni to donate to the university?

It would be kind of unique.I was actually also thinking down the lines of a Cincinati type entrance. from what I hear they also come down their steps. only thing is you would have to find steps close enough so that you don't split the band up too much and get a lot of fade going on and people then start marching to two different times. it's a tough situation but I'm sure Mr. K and the fine folks in the school can figure it out. (I still like the idea of repeling from the goodyear blimp but thats just me)
