I'll revert back to my 35-17 if you like, but the new information was in the link I posted from Sporting News on the PSU offense. I had not heard before that Royster and Green AND one of the tight ends could share the backfield. I'm afraid your D is in for a long afternoon if they have to contain Royster/Green/Clark/Quarless/Shuler coming at them. esp. if Akron stays with the 3-3-5 -- any definitive word on that?Sorry, UA Fan, don't gamble or worry about the point spread. Am in finance, so tend to fixate on numbers. Look up "boring" at dictionary.com and they have my pic AND resume there.

Sometimes we hear reports that indicate we've moved to a 4-3, others we hear we are still going with the 3-3-5. Your guess is as good as ours at this point. Some think, and I tend to agree, that we'll be in a 3-4 for much of the game. It's just one more slice of excitement for us Zip fans less than 46 hours before kick-off! ZachTheZip
We're playing a 3-3-5 "multiple". That means we'll have athletes on the field that can play any position and change the scheme on every play. One play we'll be in the Nickel formation, the next we're playing a pure 4-3. You never know what it will be, and it could even change completely during the snap count.

ZIPtrip
Saturday's road game will prove to be the biggest challenge of the season for us, however I feel Penn State is vastly overrated and we can go into PA and upset them. We have the arsenal in our offense. It's a matter of playing with few mistakes as possible. They have one of the Big 10s weakest secondaries which we can and will exploit. ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
I'm looking for the SHOCKER (game, score AND wresting move) that will include copious amounts of scoring by both offenses. Akron's D will be improved from last year but will suffer the entire game at the hands of the Penn State's offensive weaponry. However, the Akron O will shock the college football world with amazing score after amazing score, the senior passer Jacq finding open targets and an unexpectedly robust running game allowing the Zips to keep pace. Midway through the 3rd quarter, national broadcasters will start to cut to breaking news of little Akron threatening JoePa and his Nittany Lions. The game will end with the Zips up by 3 and the Nittany Lions failing on a last-ditch 4th down play. As the play fails and the Zips storm the field, JoePa will bend at his waist, putting his hands on his knees as he ponders the end to his illustrious coaching career. The Zips this year become what Marshall was to MAC football years ago.UA: 48PSU: 45ZIPS WIN! ZIPS WIN! ZIPS WIN! I can imagine French having a coronary if the Zips pulled it out. That would do more for the program than any of us could imagine. Just think of the young recruits that don't even know where Akron is. They see that big win. Then they get contacted by the school and come for a visit. Then they see the facilities and new stadium...Wow.

The game starts at midnight (we are 12 hours ahead) and is replayed on Sunday at noon too, unfortunately I am on night shift Saturday night so I will record it and watch it when I get home. Lititzlion
Don't fall for the rope-a-dope notion that our secondary is a glaring weakness. The truth is that our secondary last year wasn't very good.We have more speed and athleticism this year; it's addition by subtraction. Keep your eyes on #28.I'm not saying Tim Tebow would curl into the fetal position at the prospect of facing them but they're not the liability everyone, it seems, is predicting. Yes, many of our D-backs are relatively inexperienced, and, yes, Akron's passing O is both veteran and talented. But, the Penn State D's have been facing the Penn State offense -- Clark and those big WRs -- and are some talented athletes themselves. Will Akron burn State on a play or two? I expect that to happen. Will it happen often enough to give Akron more than three scores? Not likely, imho. And note most of the posts are focusing on Akron's passing O vs the Lion secondary. All but the most fervent Zips fans concede that the Akron defense may be facing some huge challenges. But, opinions are just that -- and it's why the games get played even all these posts and writings and analyses.Just under 24 hours to go!! Good luck the rest of the way, Lions and fans Go Zips!!!!If Akron can avoid STUPID mistakes like EKU fumbling inside their 5 yard line last night vs Indiana, they can compete. Akron also has to make plays when opportunity presents...i.e. andre jones drop vs wisconsin last year. This team is probably the strongest & fastest in the Brookhart era. Indiana, btw, is very beatable.
