Zippy989 Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Vandelay's 2005 MAC Pigskin Preview Has Zips @ 3-5 along with Ohio and Buffalo and Can't at 1-7? He lists Jabari at QB?? Looks like we are being overlooked again.. which may be an advantage...I think he underestimates the value of having a real coach leading the Zips. We may be young, but most of these guys now have had two years of the JD (Just Do it) system... I may be overly optimistic but...is this really where we are? From Akron Preview on Vandelay: "Final Thoughts Sadly, Akron was the only team who was bowl eligible in 2004 that didn’t get a bid last season. This year the Zips return 12 starters from a 6-5 team that finished in a tie in the MAC East. What makes matters worse is they must replace Charlie Frye, the school’s best QB ever, four very good offensive linemen, and a total of 20 lettermen. Frye accounted for more than 70 percent of last season's total offense and 54 school records. He ended his career ranked No. 11 on the NCAA career total offense chart and No. 16 on the career passing yards. Coach JD Brookhart is the reigning 2004 MAC Coach of the Year and will need to make quick magic once again. Last season Akron started 0-3 before everything fell into place. This year may be more of the same considering the make-shift offense line, major change at QB, and youth at many positions. Overall this a good team with lots of quality underclassmen. The Zips are two years away from being a MAC title contender. This year their focus will be on another winning season and to try break free from the middle of the MAC East standings. " Schedule (Vandelay's Predictions) at Purdue LOSS at MTSU LOSS Northern Illinois LOSS Central Michigan WIN at Buffalo LOSS at Miami LOSS Army WIN at Bowling Green LOSS at Ball State LOSS Ohio WIN Can't State (Thanksgiving) WIN 4-7 overall 3-5 MAC I'm not saying this is a sure thing. But I believe in JD's ability to game plan to keep us in most of these games. And the new attitude in this program -- I believe it will make a huge difference.... As for record, MTSU, Buffalo and Ball State are winnable games.. win those and 4-7 (3-5) becomes 7-4 (5-3). Am I way off here??? Thoughts/comments??? Quote
mnhouse Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 nope... you're right on with those games being winnable, especially once our telant gels together in some game situations. I look for this year to be a rough start. 1. because our first few games could be tough with a new offensive leader at the helm. 2. only the team really knows how they will be doing because there is a lot of unknowns out of zips camp this fall. it could be a great year, it could turn into a 'rebuilding' year... who knows right now? barring any injuries, i think will will end of 6-5 (4-4). This, to me would be a successful season and would be a good building block to compete at the top of the MAC the following year, in 2006 with lots of potential. oh yeah.... Quote
Kangaroo Craig Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 The Zips will go 6-5, Buffalo will go 2-9 or 3-8, Can't will go 5-6 or 6-5. Otherwise the rest of the predictions are pretty good for the East. In the west they have Western Michigan, a horiible team last year, near the top of the division. That's also a surprise and I don't agree with it. Quote
