timmyboy
Giorgio Bowers a RB out of Illinois has committed to the Zips. After reading the article about him, he seems like a steal. He was invited to the US army Junior combine. From what i get from this article, this kids is very good. after getting interest from schools like Arizona, Missouri, Northwestern, Oregon, Stanford, Vanderbilt. One of the scouts from the army combine talked very highly of this guy. Below is the article from scout.com.One observer I talked to after the U.S. Army Junior Combine said he may have the best kept secret in Illinois. Of course, I pay attention, so I already knew about Rich Central's junior running back Giorgio Bowers, who he was about to tell me more about. “Every time he stepped up to run or do a rep, there was a crowd around a buzz about him,” the observer told me. Bowers' 4.52 in the forty yard dash was one of the fastest at the combine. I had seen Bowers' film, so this was not a surprise to me or to Giorgio himself. “It went well. It was a good time and there was good competition down there. I've been disappointed with a few things, but I still feel I'm up there with the best.” Bowers is reluctant to show his frustration, but he was less than pleased that his performance went largely unnoticed. Still, the right people (the colleges) know who he is. But still without a first offer, he wanted the national stage in San Antonio to prove he is worthy of a scholarship. However, he almost was not afforded the opportunity were it not for some kind folks at his church.“I asked them if they could help me along. My mom is a single mom and a full time student, so we went to the church to see if they could fund our hotel stay. They agreed to fund it and that was that.” That generosity only added to Bowers' heated determination to perform at his best. “It's always been motivation for me. So many people help me out and sacrifice for me, so I try to do my best in everything I do and in the classroom. I don't want anyone to be disappointed in me.” That should be the least of his worries. Bowers made two All-Area teams as a junior after rushing for 1,075 yards on only 104 carries and he found the end zone 15 times. Maybe the most important number though, a 21 on his ACT, which has him firmly on pace to qualify. All of those numbers have earned him interest from several schools, including Arizona, Missouri, Northwestern, Oregon, Stanford, Vanderbilt and others. “Coach Ianello from Notre Dame has been to the school and I've tried to get in contact with some of these coaches, but it's hard. Purdue is showing me the most interest, but so many schools are sending mail like UCLA, but I can't really say I'm getting any major interest. I want more looks and I'm not getting much interest. I don't have a relationship with any coaches, so I'm going to try to get in touch with them.” Knowing what I know about Bowers, i cant imagine the lack of serious interest will last long. ZachTheZip
Bowers might be the best high school athlete in Chicago, for any sport. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/...tory?id=5122610 Chicago NUC preview By Chris Dombrowski ESPN Recruiting The NUC returns to the talent-deep Chicago area this Saturday and Sunday where a record amount of athletes are projected to take the field at Lake Barrington Field House. When one mentions sports in the Windy City, the first one that comes to mind is basketball, but football is slowly catching up. "With some of the best high school players in the country, Chicago basketball is always recognized amongst the best," said NUC CEO & President David Schuman. "But people should take note of the elite level football players from this area as well." Akron Bound running back Giorgio Bowers (Olympia Fields, Ill./Rich Central) was Chicago's best performer in 2009. He won the overall MVP and Fastest Man award by wowing coaches with his 32.5-inch vertical, 9-foot-8 broad jump, 4.37 shuttle run, 4.54 40 and 23 reps at 185 pounds on the bench press. Running back Jamel Martin (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bollingbrook) also stood out. The 6-0, 195-pounder had a 33.5-inch vertical, 9-9 broad jump and thoroughly dominated in one-on-ones. He has tremendous strength and carries the ball with power. He is slated to suit up for Bowling Green this fall. Notable underclassmen expected to return include last year's sophomore overall MVP Tanner Crum (Mount Carmel, Ill./Mt. Carmel), Joshua Ferguson (Joliet, Ill./Joliet) and Mason Fuller (Chicago/Urban Prep), among others. Current 8th and 9th graders are slated to compete at 8 a.m. ET and sophomores are scheduled to hit the field at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, while juniors take center stage 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
