ZachTheZip
The Akron Invitational begins on Friday. It's the biggest Indoor Track meet we've ever had at the field house, and possibly the highest-profile sporting event relative to the sport that has ever happened for the university.Akron will be competing against Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Eastern Michigan, Can't State, Auburn, Buffalo, Duquesne, VMI, Youngstown State, Appalachian State, Winthrop, Marshall, Dayton, IPW, West Virginia, West Virginia, Slippery Rock, Ashland, Cal University of Pa., Oberlin, Edinboro, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit.Auburn, Penn State and West Virginia are all ranked teams. So come out and cheer for Akron. There's guaranteed to be at least two teams you love to hate participating here, and it's hard to pass up the chance to see Akron beat them all at once on our home turf.Facebook event pageGozips.com link
ZachTheZip
In a pretty awesome move, the entire two-day event is being broadcast for FREE on ZipsZone.Let's make a name for ourselves, while making those "name" schools jealous of our fieldhouse. ZachTheZip
Yesterday, the Zips had two more athletes make the NCAA provisional qualification mark. It's pretty neat to walk around campus and see so many people wearing all sorts of college gear. This thing has to be a great boost to the local economy. Several hundred athletes and their families from across the country staying in hotels and buying food. More out-of-town people are brought into the area for this event than any football or basketball game.
