Z.I.P. Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Read the article about the MLS move to increase roster sizes. I'm not sure how the ability of clubs to sign their ex-academy players will effect the MLS draft, but I know there are five former Columbus Crew Academy players wearing the Blue and Gold. Sarkodie, Barson, Speas, Schmitt...I forget the fifth, but they all are future professionals. With this rule change, might we see most or all of them wearing those ugly yellow unies in Columbus? http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...mls&cc=5901 Quote

Two weeks ago, me and some friends headed down there for our first Crew game. Unfortunately, no former Zips were there, but we're planning on heading down there this summer to see either Teal or Blair and Zemanski. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 It actually hurts college players. The move was made so teams could sign players directly after leaving the academies, without them going to college. This means that the best players will choose to remain in their programs and get a paycheck earlier. Quote
