The Zips looked a little weak at WR and TE. Will Sconiers and/or Schrock get a look as freshmen? Also, Ritossa could be interesting in the new offense and Cunningham could see some time on D. I left the game thinking that there will be opportunities out there for the incoming guys. It can only help their chances that everybody is adjusting to new systems.

FB Austin Bailey and TE Anthony Ritossa for certain. We don't have a true FB on the roster right now, and TE looks thin.

And the two JUCO players will more than likely be starting.

I bet Bailey is in the mix because all of Akron's fullbacks are learning the position.

I doubt Ritossa will be ready to get reps as a tight end at the college level. From his bio online, he appears to be a perfect candidate for a redshirt (awfully thin and needs to increase his speed and strength).

It scares me to think that we are hoping/relying on true freshman to arrive on campus and compete against grown men.

My bet is on Cunningham helping us in pass defense and Bizzaro returning kicks.

Schrock and Sconiers based on their bios, listed size/bulk, and need at the position (beyond LaFrance and Carter) are great candidates for #3 or #4 receiver.

Bailey in the 2 deep. Very possibly could start.

Cunningham back-up CB and/or used in nickel or dime package.

Patrick McCloskey (JUCO OG)= you would think he has a chance to start. 6-4, 290 lbs.

One of the DEs (Hall or Caponi) could see some time. I could see Hall as a 3rd down specialist rushing the passer.

If Erick Howard is here..he will play.

It is not necessarily a BAD thing to have freshmen playing. It does take a special kid and sometimes some special circumstances. I don't see Ritossa based on his frame, unless we are using him as a "Dallas Clark" type TE.

In the end, I think we will see 5 FR. in the 2 deep when SU depth chart is listed.

I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. They definitely need some help from the incoming guys based on the showing at the spring game.

Nor do I. But, the point is, it isn't NECESSARILY a bad thing.

You said one thing that I noted to my wife on Saturday= the kids coming in, especially those that have played a 4-3 defense or more of a "traditional" offense, may not be too far behind the kids that are here when it comes to the learning curve. But, there are of course many other factors that go into that.

Let's not forget that some of the guys out there can improve themselves greatly in the next 3 months. That Dillard kid at WR showed a lot..just needs to improve those hands (which, for a WR, is just a bit important!!!).

He looks weak in the hands/arms and lackadaisical in route running. I hope he makes a big jump before the season.

First of all, welcome to both of you.

I think lots of freshmen will play, especially the coach I recruits, because he recruited those players to fit his schemes. Pro offenses and 4-3 defenses. None of the current players or Brookhart recruits were recruited with those in mind.
