Deferring the kick twice?

ok so im no football expert, so im wondering why we kicked off both at the start of the game and the start of the second half...if we deferred the kick from the coin flip shouldn't we have gotten the ball to start the second half?

We did not defer, we chose to kick. This is one of the stupidest mistakes a player can make. Basically, if you choose to receive; you receive the ball, and the other team picks what they want second half (receive), if you defer; you wait until second half to decide, making the other team choose to receive to start the game. But if you choose "kick", you just gave the opposing team choice second half to receive again, which is what happened.

Frankly, I think that if our team captain (I am not sure who it was) can make that mistake, we have many more losses to witness. That should never happen.

We didn't defer. We won the toss and made our choice, which was to kick off instead of receive. If you win the toss, you either make a choice then and there or you defer until the second half. We chose right there. We chose to kick off instead of receive, that was our choice and the other team got to make their own choice at the beginning of the second half.

There are three ways to interpret what happened.

1) One of our captains is a moron. Coach told him to defer and he said "kick" instead.

2) One of our coaches is a moron. Coach told him to choose "kick", and captain followed orders.

3) We were so full of ourselves that we thought we didn't need to start with the ball at the beginning of either half in order to win.

Either way we have someone incredibly stupid leading our players whether it's a coach or a captain.

I'm going with option B. I think this coaching staff is in WAY over their heads. I had friends and relatives in from LA and Texas, and I was, quite frankly, embarrassed by the glaring errors, lack of fundamentals, and generally poor scheming this coaching staff has so far produced. There was a giant talent gap between our players and theirs, and we should have won by at least 3 TD's...this one lays 100% in the coaching staff's laps.

There were at least four captains out there. I would have hoped at least one of them would have had the football sense or leadership to get things straight. I was watching it and even the refs knew we were screwed up. They kept trying to give us a chance to correct it and still we got it wrong.

Also, did anybody else notice that on our punts the blocking backs hardly bothered to move. I was surprised we didn't get one blocked.
