Fed up??

Anybody else fed up with all the rest of the elitist posters on other MAC boards dissing on our Zips?

We earned the MAC EAST TITLE. We beat BG and NIU... Toledo couldn't do that yet they got the GMAC Bowl before the MACC is even played?

I know we could end up 6-6 and not eligible, and we should have taken care of business against Army and 1st and Goal on Ball State 1 yd line would have made us 8-3. But, seriously, do any of us think it would be any different if we had won those two games? Toledo still would be in the GMAC and Akron and NIU picking up the scraps. It actually would have been worse because you waould have a division champ finishing 7-5 or 8-4 sitting at home while a 8-3 Toledo takes their slot....

And just for fun, letst look at Toledo's 8-3 shall we?? Rockets 8 wins are: Western Illinois (1AA), Western Michigan, Temple, Eastern Mighigan, Ball State, Buffalo and Bowling Green. The three losse are: Fresno State 44-14, Central Michigan 21-17, NIU 35-17. Two quality wins (WMU & BG) the rest is pathetic.

NIU's 7-4 is more impressive to me... Wins are:Tennesse Tech (1AA), Miami, EMU, Can't, Central Michigan, Toledo, Western Michigan. The 4 losses were to Michigan, Northwestern, Akron and Ball State. Three quality wins and 3 quality losses.

Bottom line is either a Division Championship means something or it doesn't. In 2005, the MAC East Title means nothing.

Other thoughts from what I've been reading:

NIU is counting the Zips out just like last time around.. that I don't mind. The All- MAC team disses Jay Rohr. The MAC office hopes we lose so they don't have to explain their own ineptitude with a possible 7-5 Division winner sitting at home... Like that hasn't happened before.

I looked at the Beacon this am.. I know I shouldn't but I read a nice story with pic about JD and the Zips.

http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/colleg...on/13281731.htm

Inside I read about the "Free Ride" for Zips students by Gary Eastwick...I was actually ok with the article until I realized it was run two days before the game (no time to plan) and the Beacon just cannot run a story on Akron Athletics without taking a pot shot....

http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/colleg...on/13281726.htm

Final lines of the story are below:

"Starting rowdy tradition

If UA can't convince students to travel three hours with a free game ticket with free transportation, chances are bowl organizers won't take the Zips seriously in the recent future.

Yes, a school needs a winning record to be bowl eligible, but ask the Zips about last year's Hawaii snub.

They were the only bowl-eligible team in the nation which didn't play in a bowl.

Waddell hopes the AK-ROWDIES, a new athletic support organization, can bring more than 500 of its student members to Detroit.

The organization was launched two weeks ago at the men's basketball season opener.

Membership is free. Students receive a T-shirt, sweatband, premium floor seats at Rhodes Arena and other goodies.

Jason Smith is both an intern in UA's athletic department and a member of the AK-ROWDIES.

He spent part of Monday typing in more than 650 member names into the organization's database.

``We're trying to start a tradition,'' Smith said.

It all starts Thursday, for better or for worse."

Note to Gary: WTF is "recent future?" Moron. Typically, you would say "recent past" in referring to historical references. In this instance you are referring to the future which has yet to occur so it can't be recent....... You mean "near future."

What is your beef with Toledo? They are 8-3 and deserve a bowl bid. If Akron was 8-3 and not playing in the MACC, you'd be screaming for a bowl, period. Sure they had some embarassing losses on national tv, but at least they played 4 games on ESPN or ESPN2 and had people in the stands. They bring exposure to the conference, that is why the are playing in a bowl.

Also, going to a bowl game means revenue for that bowl. Right now, which team looks more marketable, Akron or Toledo? Forget deserving because there are a lot of teams that deserve to go to a bowl and never get selected. Toledo will bring several thousand fans where its skeptical on how many Akron would bring. Why? These bowl committees look at attendance figures and fan following. I think Toledo wins in both those categories.

Hey, if Akron wins they go to the Motor City Bowl, which is a good one. If you lose, then Akron is 6-6 and doesn't deserve a bid.

Your beef with Toledo is unjustified and downright ridiculous. You should be upset at your fellow fans who didn't come to the games and also at the football team for losing too many winnable games.

Here we go again..

Toledo fans are full of arrogance and spout off all the time about how they are the measuring stick for the rest of the Conference. (Some of it is rightly so... MAC Champs every year have the right to be a little cocky.)

So we compare our programs to the Rockets and then you take it personal when I call you out and compare your schedule to NIU?

Dude,

You beat Temple, Buffalo, Ball State and Western Illinois. Three of these wins are against ESPN Bottom 10 Perennial Contenders. You are not going to tell me that isn't patheTic no matter how you spin it.

I have no "Beef" with Toledo.. I am simply pointing out that you didn't get the GMAC Bowl invite cause you had quality wins in 05... in fact just the opposite....Toledo's reputation got the bid.. something all of us are shooting for...

An Akron team with wins like above wouldn't get an invite even if they finished 9-2.

Don't be so sensitive.... msopher.... even you have to admit those four opponents are pretty weak...

A few years back...I'm going to guess it was 2000 Toledo beat Penn State, shut out Marshall 42-0 and went 10-1. It was Gary Pinkell's last year. And they got no bowl bid.

The very next summer the alumni association built a traveling bar/restaurant and took it to every game trying to show the bowl coalition they traveled well. They organized their trips and it all started to roll from there.

Toledo was shafted worse than us in 2000. Congraulations to them for figuring out this attendance thing and getting an early invite this year.

Honestly, if we weren't playing on Trs and were 6-5, we don't deserve a bowl. Maybe if we beat Amry and BSU I would make that argument, but we didn't. Also, we all know that money talks and bull$#!+ walks so lets just forget about who "Deserves" to go. BZ is right, Toledo go the biggest shaft of all time a few years ago. I think they were the first nationally ranked team not to go to a bowl or something like that.

Akron holds it's own destiny more than every right now. Can't sucks, Pitt isn't very good, we've got a brand new campus, and are getting a lot of other attention from the other futbol team to put UA in NE Ohio residents minds. I thought we got reasonable coverage from the Cleveland TV stations after the Turkeyday game. If we can pull out a MACC win and go to a bowl, there are going to be a LOT of people taking notice, including potential recruits. We all know that we're going to be loaded over the next few years and a win in Detroit would go a LONG way in putting us on the map. If we seize this opportunity we can beat down Can't for a long time to come, make a name for ourselves in the Western Penn. recruiting grounds and start pulling in fans from the Metro-Cleveland area. I'm sick of us sitting around and waiting for someone else to help us out. We've got a hell of an opportunity here and we need to suck it up and grab it.

I agree on our lack of quality wins. We beat no one this year except Western and BG.

But, don't take out your frustrations on Toledo. We don't consider ourselves that good and we realize our reputation got us into this bowl. (along with the best overall record)

I guess being on top means you have to hear it from everyone else, but it gets old after awhile.
